this is a great site to do some good fishing. they have a lower parking lot to park at on one side that has a rest room that's open in the summer all well lit. if you ask around you will find that if you go into Warren and cross the glade bridge make the first right after the bridge and fellow it out, It will turn to dirt road but if you keep going it will end on the other side of the Dam (better fishing) takes about 8 or ten miles so don't panic. and if your not sure their is a Kwik Fill just a little past the bridge that is open all night. PS if you drive that far you will have already missed your turn anyway so grab a donut and get directions. LOL.
I live here so maybe am just a little jaded in that I think it was sad that it destroyed the Allegheny River valley and the Seneca's lost reservation land. To me, the reservoir has a sort of bathtub fake lake look. On the good side, the scenery there is very pretty, just below the dam is a great place to see bald eagles, you can see/feed gigantic carp at the dam and at the marina. You can eat outside at the marina restaurant and at sunset, it is very pretty. There are a couple of very short very nice nature trails in the area. Just below the dam is a great place to put in for a canoe trip on the Allegheny River. Sometimes there are special events, such as a bald eagle celebration in winter.
If you are looking for a great outdoor activity in the Allegheny national Forest, you must visit the Kinzua Dam! The scenery is breathtaking, especially if you visit during the Autumn foliage time! Great hiking trails as well.
Very nice, clean large areas to park and explore. Be sure to start your visit a the Dams base at the Parks Office. Many pieces of printed materials to help guide you to enjoyment..
Fun for all whether you like boating, camping, fishing or hiking there's something fun for everyone.
A massive dam on the Allegheny River. I've visited it many times, even had a chance to tour the interior of the dam. Another great view is from the fishing pier on the opposite side. Worth the drive. Visit the fish nursery while you are on that side!!
took a 3 hour ride up through the Allegheny national forest to the Kinzua Dam. Checking out the colorful trees along the way. Nice little Sunday road trip in the convertable.
Definitely go during the fall. It's a great place to see the beautiful autumn colors. There was some construction but not too long to get around it.
Dam breast and spillway pretty cool. Educational info and walks. Very nice area to visit in fall. Summer watersports attraction. Find Rimrock overlook and explore awesome boulder formations!
We went to the dam after Rim Rock, so we were less than awestruck. It's a easy stop, so you should definitely do it.
I have seen bigger dams going from Ontario to Quebec....not really sure what the attraction is supposed to be. The scenery around, however, is lovely.....that's about it!!!
Nice landmark to visit. The mountains all around are beautiful! The water is so calming. Something out of a magazine !
I really cannot say too much about this place without giving away the hint in my title. It is an amazing place to visit. Paved pathways, restrooms and a small but efficient visitors center. There are no food or beverage vendors or any close by restaurants. If you want to pack a lunch, they do have picnic areas available at the visitors center. If you do not wish to walk up the trail to the Dam, you can drive to the upper side of it. Make sure on these hot summer days you bring along a big water bottle, as we found out the hard way. It's just a nice place to see.
I have always loved being on a lake, something about it relaxes me. My in laws live close by and have a boat they keep here. We went up recently and it was my first time there and on their boat. It looked like rain but in the afternoon it broke away and was beautiful. The threat of weather I think kept most away that day so hardly anyone was on the lake. It was so relaxing cruising around on the boat. What I loved most about this lake was the shores were all natural as they are part of the state forest. Even though I enjoy being on a lake with nice houses on it shores to view as I cruise; there was something so peaceful of having nothing but mother nature as my scenery. The trees made you feel like you may have stepped back to a simpler time. The Dam itself was sort of small and you can't get real close but was a nice spot to hang out. I look forward to spending another weekend with my in laws next summer on this lake.
We love boating in different lakes and checking out the dams. Kinzua is a beautiful rec area for outdoor people! Dam area has nice paved walkways and clean facilities. Nice little rustic trail to connect to Big Bend area.
