The Butler was very quite in the winter. It's a historic building right on the river at the end of the street. Great views, nice atmosphere. What we wanted on the menu wasn't available due to the kitchen having mechanical problems but we a had a nice a nice steak dinner.
Cute shops, GREAT restaurants (Phils is my all-time favorite!) and a fun, friendly atmosphere. Its a great area to walk around in the summer, and the light decorations in the winter make it a fun place in the snow too. Summer brings quite a number of tourists, so street parking may be difficult to find, but its worth it to either park further out and walk the area, or take the shuttle if offered. One of my favorite spots in the world is Saugatuck!
Nice shops and great restaurants. Very down to earth and friendly people. Felt very at home and look forward to making Saugatuck a regular part of our travels.
Enjoyed the food after along week and a two hour drive. I really liked the cream of crab soup, my husband loved the burger. The atomsphere was clean and staff was wonderful.
While visiting Saugatuck we came upon Butler Street and decided to park and walk the street. Lots of nice shops and restaurants in the area on both sides of the street.
You cannot go to Saugatuck, Michigan and not take a trip down Butler Street. The shops are ecclectic and it's so fun to find a little something here and there to take home with you. It is also so nice to see the beautiful water all along this coastal lake town. Worth the memories, trust me!
This is a beautifully maintained lakeside small midwest town, and Butler street is a destination in itself. Shops and places to eat all help visitors enjoy a great getaway. We were there in mid October and the tree lined area was gorgeous. All the shops were decorated in fall decor inside and out!
very nice quaint downtown shopping area. has something for everyone. we went in october 2014 so we caught some deals because of end of season clearances. its a nice mix of different types of stores, food things, clothing, fudge, ice cream, coffee and throw in some bar type places and you are set. we got there early so parking was not an issue but i can see how it would be. every store associate was helpful and outgoing as well.
went for a fall roadtrip to the east shore of lake michiganfound a great place called saugatuck, great scenery and shopping and plenty of nice places to eat,inc butlers restaurant.butler street is full of nice stores to browse,it is all set on the waterfront and really pretty, the people were friendly and very helpful
Saugatuck oozes charm. Yes it is jammed with tourists. Yes the traffic is jammed. Yes parking is a challenge. Bug none of that, somehow, matters. Add in some killer cafes and some seriously good shops, and you've got a winner.
Love the boutiques in Saugatuck and Douglas. Merchandise is unique, trendy, and relatively affordable. They were well stocked in July, a bit less in October. Many shops seemed like they were getting ready to close or go to reduced hours for the winter. But still, nice to walk around.
Lots of nice lttle shops and eateries. Very quaint and cozy. Some of the merchandise was a bit pricey but very nice area to stroll and take in the views. Parking can be very difficult on a nice day but once that has been conquered you can walk everywhere you'd like to go.
No trip to Saugatuck could be complete without a trip down Butler Street. It's quaint, a multitude of shops and restaurants, and while parking can be a challenge, just keep driving around and you'll find a place. It never fails, I always find one. Or park at one of the several lots run by the high school. On top of that you can park at the high school (never a shortage there), and take a shuttle they run back and forth every 15 minutes. Christmas time is like walking through a winter wonderland. The charm of the shops, the restaurants, and the people on the street, make it an adventure that will keep you coming back, again and again. This is what makes Saugatuck the #1 vacation getaway in the US as per the USA TODAY readers poll published May 2014, and the #3 vacation spot as voted by the "Coastal Living Magazine".
This is the main drag in down town Saugatuck. They have the most unique stores and art places. Keep in mind that these stores have high price tags, but oh it's so fun to just look at all the cool shops. During the hot summer some of the shops put out water bowls for the dogs. This is a dog friendly town.
Great selection of shops - particularly of the culinary and oenophile variety! Well worth a special trip to go "collecting"! Don't miss The Spice Merchants, The Olive Mill, and the Fenn Valley and Tabor Hill winery tasting rooms.
