If you are traveling through SW Michigan and only have time for just one winery then go for this one. But really consider visiting several others too like Hickory, Lemon Creek, Domaine Berrien and many others. Why here? Well its has the most 'rounded' selection of drinks on offer. Not just wine but a wide selection of great beers (several with an authentic British taste to them), and some innovative spirits. So innovative my Swedish friend kept saying "Vodka! From wine?" all the way home. They often have live bands and food perfect for beer - my favorite is the pulled pork. They offer a lot of merchandise for sale, including their best beers, their wine of course, and spirits. The grounds are beautiful and the Round Barn is quite amazing. Take time to go upstairs and look at the ceiling.
Round Barn Winery is beautifully located on Hills Road in Baroda, Michigan. It is also a warm, friendly, fun place to be, especially in the warm summer months. I have found that the vinters/owners are sophisticated in all matters concerning wines, spirits and craft brews. They are always available for a friendly chat at one of their locations and are hands-on managers. Their staff members are similar to their managers...which means "you can relax and talk to them, one-on-one" most times during your visits. Another point I would like to make is how elegant and eclectic each site projects to each person visiting them. When in this area, please enjoy a relaxing visit to this region of Michigan. Don't forget to go to the website and see the line-up of local musicians they feature at their events. A sure pleaser for all ages, young and "mature" (they have a "dogs-allowed" too). One of my favorites!
It is always a treat to visit Round Barn! I love their wines, spirits and beer! It is always fun to enjoy the tasting room, even on busy Saturday afternoons.
My wife and I were in town to run the Baroda 13.wine half marathon. We decided to explore the area on the Saturday before our run on Sunday. This was our first stop and we got there as their harvesting festival was beginning. There grape stomping, vineyard tours, delicious food, live music, and great drinks! I loved it because their beer was really good and my wife was able to enjoy the wine. If I had time to only go to one place in Baroda this would be it.
This winery is awesome! Very organized and great wines. One of few wineries where I liked almost every one. My husband enjoys the reds (dry) and I like the sweets. The barn is a very unusual and cool place. They had music outside and food (we didn't partake of tho a gorgeous day for it, looked like fun). We went upstairs for tasting. Nice store. Even doors of bathroom are rounded! Ceiling upstairs inside barn really cool. We went the 25th so workers dressed in costume and candy was at registers. Our wine pourer was nice, but not overly filled w/info, only slight drawback. They've beers also in other building, but didn't have time. They've another winery (tasting room only) in Union Pier which is pleasant also, but now that I've been here I prefer this! I would def go back when in area. We bought a walnut crème wine (which is more like a liquor) for after dinner on thanksgiving. We also bought apple wine for pre-dinner (thanksgiving) and a separate mulling spice. If you join the Michigan Wines council you get a card that entitles you to 5/10% off many wineries, well worth the one time fee (annual magazine comes too). They do charge for the tastings. I believe it was $10 for 6, so husband/I shared. They give you a token to use at their winery or sister winery, Free Cellars, to get $5 off 3 bottles. Try this winery and you will NOT be disappointed.
My husband and I went to Round Barn during our vacation for our anniversary. We were there during the week, so it was less crowded. We enjoyed the wine tastings first. Great selection for every palate. We bought a few different flavors and then headed up to the pub. The atmosphere in the pub was very relaxed and felt like we were just hanging out at the local watering hole. =) The beers were unique, in a good way. Some "micro-brews" we've tried at other places taste cheap, but these had distinct flavors that blended well. Overall, we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the experience.
Not a bad thing to say about Round Barn. We started at the brewery and sampled six of their beers. LOVED the vacation and Kolsch beers. In the winery we tried the artesia spumante, gewürztraminer, apple (fruit wine - cold and hot with mulling spices), cranberry (fruit wine - cold and with their vodka for a crantini), plum (fruit wine) along with their DiVine Black Walnut Crème liquor. OMG. OMG! You have to get the walnut crème liquor. It's to die for! Loved this place and will be back when we visit MI again in the summer.
We did a staycation this summer, venturing out to various places within a hour or so of our home in Northwest Indiana. One of our priorities was to visit a local Southwest Michigan winery. After seeking advice from friends who had been to several of the local wineries, we decided on Round Barn. The experience was lovely. The wine tasting was low pressure and enjoyable. Then we moved up to the brewery tasting area and tasted several beers. Round Barn was a great choice because both our wine people and our beer people had their interests fulfilled. We went home with several bottles of wine and several six packs of beer. Beautiful grounds, attentive servers, great afternoon.
Round Barn also has a Craft beer barn and makes vodka and bourbon out of grapes. The Beer barn has sample beer you can purchase to taste. Its hard to relax and sample on a weekend because its so crowded with large bus tours.
We visited on a Friday afternoon after visiting another winery in the area. The grounds is gorgeous along with the old barn. We purchased tasting chips and split them up between the wine room and the brewery. We really enjoyed the experience and ended up taking home a bottle of the Cranberry Wine.....it was amazing!
Went with friends during one of their annual events, Cocktails and Cars. It made for a nice Saturday afternoon, with a couple live bands, import sports car show, sandwich-food being served, and great weather. The mixed drinks were a bit pricy ($10), but the beer and wine were close enough to go along with the setting and the entertainment. The people watching was great, as you can imagine, with the focus of the day being consuming beer, wine and spirits. I had to exclaim "Down goes Frazier!" as one gal couldn't keep it on the sidewalk making her exit and went down in the mulch. Now THAT's a party!
We had a great time with the tasting (thanks Jesika). Beautiful area - more people than the others (at the time we visited)
Stopped here on a Friday evening. Round barn brewery is fantastic. The girls headed to the wine barn and guys went to the brewery. Everyone had a great time!
We took clients on a wine tasting tour of the Southwest Michigan wineries. We organized tastings with three different wineries many weeks in advance due to the fact that we would have about 12 people and we wanted to have a first class experience for our clients. Our first stop was at the Round Barn where we had also arranged to have lunch. When we arrived the staff in the wine tasting room had no idea we were coming and they did nothing to make room for our group at the tasting bar. I eventually asked a group of four if they would be so kind as to move to the end of the bar and they cheerfully accommodated us. We had a "reservation" set up with the Round Barn for weeks. The staff said management was in a meeting and therefore they had no idea what we were talking about. Then the very next thing they did was to quote how much the tasting would cost and asked how we intended to pay. It was embarrassing. To top it off they were absolutely no help what so ever in describing the wines to the group. We were very disappointed. Thankfully, the other two wineries we visited were organized and ready for our group and did a great job of educating us on the various wine selections. Too bad because I have been to the Round Barn on previous occasions and I was hoping for a much better experience.
On the S.W. Michigan wine trail - we're locals but bring visitors / friends several times a year. What's different about this Round Barn is that they have 2 tasting rooms - a Wine and a Beer / Spirits tasting room. Vodka from grapes, rum, ... Also Sangria tasting on weekends along with entertainment. A fun time - you could spend a few hours here.
