a few of my friends and my self booked a wine tour with Groupon. We went to 4 different winery's on our tour with this being our third stop. It was by far my FAVORITE place. Their wine list and verity was great and the guy who helped us during our tasting was super nice and guided us through our tasting! Their prices are also amazing, it was one of the cheapest ones that we stopped at and I think the best quality! I cant wait to order some more wine online when my stock is gone that I brought home :)
My boyfriend and I went on a Michigan winery tour and St. Julian was our last stop. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the wine was superb and very reasonably priced.
Stopped here on a winery tour and this was by far the best winery. The tiny tasting room is very cute and there are food items for sale as well. The staff is super friendly and generous with the tastings but the best thing was the WINE. Excellent selection of different types of wines and liquors (try the sherry -it is great!) and the pricing is quite reasonable.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Tonya was great, very nice and generous with tastings. It would be hard to buy a bottle based on some of the samples at other wineries. The cost is $5, with 6 tastings and a nice wine glass to take home.
I have never had a bad visit at the Union Pier tasting room. The staff is wonderful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Even on a busy day you get individual attention. The wines are very good. And if you like the wine join the wine club it is an awesome deal.
Had a good time tasting the wine. It was all fantastic! Might I suggest the Shalom and new Head Games.
not as busy as usual when we visited - friendly staff - like the wine glass that you receive with the tasting
This was my favorite winery out of the seven or so that we visited while staying in SW Michigan. The tasting is 5 dollars per person, but you get to keep the glass and the pours were very generous! There is also a Round Barn winery and brewery next door, so it is convenient to visit both places within a short amount of time.
Although St. Julian produces my favorite wine, Niagara, they no longer offer free tastings at Union Pier like they did a few years ago. Niagara "smells like Southwest Michigan on a cool fall day during harvest"--and it does. I now skip the winery and buy it more reasonably priced at the local grocery stores.
They not only had wines to try, but vodka, hard apple cider, and more. Large chop that had wine stoppers, dip mixes, wine bags and racks, and other gift items. I really liked the hard apple cider so we grapped a 4 pack of cans. Some of the other wines were good, but just didn't compare to White Pine Winery- granted that's just my taste buds talking. My boyfriend loved a few reds that they had. You also get a the glass from the wine tasting which is a nice functional souvinier.I'd stop again if we are in the are and try some more for sure. PS- the person assiting us with our tasting let us try a little of their champagne mixed with a peach liquor they make. Yum!
We've been drinking St. Julian wines for years and they are consistently some of the best in Michigan. This was our first visit to this tasting room and it was every bit as nice as the ones in Paw Paw and Frankenmuth. The servers for the tasting were knowledgable about the wines and even helped us with suggestions for nearby restaurants. The cherry wine this year is excellent, and we enjoyed several others, including the inexpensive Heron wines. Try the Gunga Din hard cider for something a little different.
We stopped there on our way down to Blue Chip, the help is friendly and knowledgeable about their products. They not only have wine, but dipping sauces, crackers, meat and cheeses. I think it costs about 5 dollars to taste 6 wines, sometimes 7 and you get to keep the glass. It's just a fun little stop.
stopped in driving up to detroit, tried their dry reds cab, pinot , syrah, all wre great!!!read a bad reveiw about them couldent have been more wrong probaly a snob who likes a particular type and has no palate, will defintly be going back staff was amazing and not pushy everything i was looking for in a winery,
Oh wow -- if you like red wine, stay clear. It was pricey, some around $18 a bottle, and I was in a hurry after picking my son up from college, and still had hours to drive -- so I didn't taste. BIG mistake.I bought a case so I could get a 10% discount, -- so naturally I haven't tried everything. The two my husband and I did try were: 2010 Braganini Reserve Pinot Noir and the Bragannini 2010 Merlot. (The Pinot Noir was recommended by the man behind the counter -- so I bought three bottles!) The fruity undertones were marvelous in both wines, but the grape they use is just not suitable for these types of wines and there was a vague but distinct vinegary aftertaste leading me to think these are not wines you want to sit on a wine rack for very long. Both of these reds had zero body. We turned both those bottles into Sangria. We are planning on giving the rest of the reds (with Sangria recipe attached) and being VERY selective about to whom they are given. Lordy, I hope the sweet fruit wines are OK -- but one hope's they are because this winery does get good reviews and that is the type of wine Michigan is known for.Lesson learned -- don't do hasty winery shopping and next time I'll let the 19 year old get me back to Chicago. CJ
I always stop at St. Julian for their dry red. Their is a wine tasting bar with ample help for choosing. They have a nice selection of wine assessories, as well.
