If you go to Harbor Beach, go to Lincoln Park, it was a beautiful walk way out on to the water, you can watch a wonderful sunrise, we watched sunset there. There is a wonderful lady named Nancy Rose, she walks there everyday at sunrise as sunset, she knows lots about the area and can tell you about anything there. Say hi to her, she is 74 with short hair.
A dozen of my family visited the lighthouse on Saturday - what a great experience. The tours only operate on Saturday out of the Marina in town. The lighthouse is on the breakwall a mile out in the harbor, and cannot be accessed from land. The boat ride out is quick but lovely. The volunteers stationed at each floor of the lighthouse are knowledgeable about the area and clearly have a passion for the lighthouse itself. Its one of a small number of lighthouses where the keeper residence was actually within the tower structure, so it's a cool and different lighthouse experience.
The light was too far away to get good shots. The park that faced it was clean and gave good views of the harbor.
The ride out to the light was absolutely amazing. Pictures galore!!! Guides at the lighthouse were the most informed I have come across in my lighthouse tours. Shelley and Heather are retired teachers and their passion for the lighthouse and its history are second to none. A tour not to be missed. $20 well spent.
Right on the shores of Lake Huron in the thumb of Michigan, this lighthouse was easy to explore and informational.
While we didn't get a chance to tour the lighthouse (it's only open on Saturdays) we did enjoy the view of it from the pier. There is a nice beach area between the lighthouse and the town with water that is shallow for a good distance. The lighthouse is a mile off shore and a boat ride out along with a tour is $20. We got lots of great photos from the end of the pier. There were also people fishing and catching some fairly large fish. Swimming, boating, fishing, and sightseeing - all in the world's largest man made harbor. It's a lot for such a small area but was not crowded at all when we visited.
