It's a great combo...trees, woods, often great views of water (Rogue River in Rockford area), usually quiet with places to stop and almost always a chance to visit with nice folks you share the trail with. There are times where you will run into--hopefully not literally--the want-to-be "speed racers" on their bikes moving far too fast for what the trail should be, but fortunately they are not the predominent population. In Rockford the trail takes you right past ice creams and hot dog shops and a restaurant or two, and a very minimal detour through downtown is a great place to sojourn. If you cross over the damn in Rockford there is a fantastic wood plank walkway that follows along the Rogue River on the opposite side. Highly recommended detour!

If you like to run outside in the winter, where it is SAFE from cars and slush, get out your taktraks and head to WP Trail. The trail is often icy, but also mostly sheltered from the wind by the woods and Rogue River valley. In summer it can get a little crowded at times with pedestrians and cyclists but still, convenient place to get out side and enjoy some activity.

After using trails in other states, we have realized how wonderful it is to have this trail so near us. We got bikes in May, and we have taken the White Pine Trail often since then. We usually bike for ice cream, which I am proposing should be considered a true sport. We have been able to do this at the Comstock Park trail head, the Belmont staging area, Cedar Springs, and in downtown Rockford. The object is to bike enough to work off the calories in the ice cream. Our favorite route is from the staging area on 12 Mile Road north to the bench under 14 Mile Road, which is mostly uphill, then turn around, go past 12 Mile and down into Rockford for ice cream, then back to the car. It's about 7 1/2 miles of beautiful, paved trail with scenic beauty, waterways, woods, and community. The whole trail has manageable slope and trail monitors. It is safe and doable for even beginners. If you stop at the Chamber of Commerce office in Rockford, you can pick up a trail map for more details. We'll look forward to spring so we can ride again.

The White Pine Trail is just great! It goes for maybe 100 miles- Great for biking, walking, roller blades. As it goes further North less is paved, which is great in the winter time for Xskiing.

We took this trail from Comstock to Rockford Michigan. I don't live in the area and it was a bit of a challenge to look at the maps provided and figure out where to park and where the parking was located. I would recommend parking in Belmont or Rockford. Big parking areas with bathroom facilities. The trail itself is magnificent. It is quiet and full of great trees and flowers. A very natural setting. As you approach towns it is easy to get to the stores and restaurants and get back on the trail. I bike often and really enjoyed this. The trail is paved from Comstock to Sand Lake and it is well maintained. It is mostly flat with modest hills. I'll be back in the fall. I would just ask the people who put the information together on the websites to be more specific about parking locations, what exits to get off of etc.

I rode this trail from Comstock Park to Sand Lake this past weekend and it was a fantastic ride! We planned to stop and eat in Cedar Springs but if we were to do it again we'd stop in Rockford. The trail runs right through Rockford's downtown and they have a ton of cute shops and restaurants. It can be quite busy so you have to ride through slow but it's worth a stop. There weren't many choices for lunch in Cedar Springs. There's fast food up near the freeway and a little diner in "downtown". We ate at Kelly's and it was a typical "up north" diner. Outdated decor but the food was fantastic. The trail is paved through Sand Lake and then it becomes gravel. The trail is in great condition, a few deep cracks to dodge but overall a great smooth ride.

We took this trail from the beginning at comstock park to Rockford and stopped at the Rockford brewing co. Great ride with little to no hills.

This is a very easy trail with minimal inclines and essentially no hills. It is very well maintained with beautiful surroundings. north of West River Drive. The area South of West River is less attractive. The trail is busy with bikes, skaters, and walkers but is friendly. This trail continues on a nonpaved but still easy trail North. In the Fall the foliage is spectacular.

This trail is great! Well maintained and people are very friendly. Good for adults as well as kids. Lots of wildlife along the trail in Rockford.

I walk 20 miles a week on the Rockford White Pine Trail. Not only is it well maintained, the beauty of nature is all around you. The sights, sounds and smell of spring is upon us. Walk, jog, run or ride your bike. Take a camera if you can.

The White Pine Trail State Park (smooth asphalt for a good portion, crushed limestone further north) is a fine trail in its own regard, but the real exciting news is that it will soon be connected to other trails in the Grand Rapids Metro area like the Fred Meijer Pioneer, Kent, Kenowa and Musketawa Trails, offering the option of riding 40, 50 or many more miles in a day. And it won't be too long after that when there are connections to the east as well.Michigan's Trail network -- already one of the best in the nation -- just keeps getting better and better.

This is an easy trail to ride with kids, very low grade. Hardly any hills. Very few crossings so the car traffic is minimum. Wide road for kids being wobbly. It's very well traveled, so be prepared for other people sharing your lane, however, most folks are courteous and kind, especially with kids.We road to Rockford and had some ice cream and lunch and rode back. Lots of fun and beautiful setting. Saw two bunnies, lots of birds and a couple deer in the distance.

The park trail runs by the Rogue River where we saw lots of canoes, kayaks and toobs. Booked a trip with AAA Canoe and Rental and did a 2-hr kayak adventure. Easy water - shallow in most places - good for all ages. Great, peaceful way to see the river!

If you start in Rockford, it is a very slight uphill to Cedar Springs, about a 7-8 mile trip. On the north end of Cedar Springs is a great place to get some ice cream. On your return to Rockford, you get the benefit of the slight downhill ride. You can always get ice cream again in Rockford if needed. Plenty of places to park your vehicle but I prefer to park by the old Wolverine Warehouse.
