Well kept Missouri State Park. Camping sites. You can swim. fish. Play or relax. Several play grounds and camping sites.
Most people have family reunions at this park. There is an area for campers. Lots of places to swim or wade in the creek. Watch out for snakes though!
I've been to many Missouri state parks and this one is pretty average. Outhouses are fairly disgusting. Showers are annoying as you have to press the button every few seconds. Boring overall, but didn't do the big trail. Campsites are nice, but slightly rocky. Hosts didn't want the kids playing in the woods which is weird. Not a whole lot to do but camp and walk trails and they are pretty basic trails. The weekend before Halloween is a blast for the kids as the electric sites decorate and the kids get to trick or treat. No stores are very close in case you forgot something.
just inside the park entrance off Hwy 67 into St Francois State Park is the trailhead to Mooner's Hollow. Be prepared for a gorgeous hike on a single path trail up and down the rolling hills and bluffs. this 2.75 mile trail will take you approximately 2 hours to complete. Adjacent to a babbling creek and thru dense forest this trail will push your heart rate and lift your spirits of the amazing scenery and wildlife. bring your pups and don't worry about cyclists as they are not allowed on the trail. Take the opportunity to say hello to your fellow hikers and enjoy the journey we sure did!
Good place for picnics, family reunions or a day at the park for the kids to play on the playgrounds or take a swim in the river. Easy access at different places throughout the park and several different playground areas. My kids love going here to ride bikes and swim. We also love to go to the Annual Mud Day that the park has. The kids love to get muddy and play on the mud slides.
We camped there in May of this year. They have a nice campground with electric hookups. We had a large site at the end of the loop.Although our site was a back in,there are many pull throughs for larger RV's.There are several hiking trails and a day use area where we took our grandkids dog to play in the water. There is isn't much in the area but if you need some supplies, there is a Walmart about 10 miles south of the park. The cmp hosts were very freindly.
We went camping at St. Francois State Park a few weeks ago, it was a spontaneous camping trip with never being there before we were not sure what to expect but really were very happy with it. We had an electric site and put 2 tents on it(site 30 is the best for this). It was a good walk to the od house and we drove to the shower house. There are a few water spickets through out the area but not one at each camp site. There are several hiking trails to go on. Lots of access to the river with a great beach-however you will have to drive to this as it would be a very far walk. The camp hosts are very nice drive around with ice and firewood for sale. Bathroom and shower house are decent, the showers have to be held on which can be challenging if you let go of the button it only stays on for about 5 seconds, you can not wash soap out of long hair in 5 seconds. It does cost to camp there and you can only make reservations on the state park website which must be done several days in advance, however if you would just like to go for the day to take advantage of the hiking and river that is free! All and all I would go back to St. Francois State park to camp.
This is a very nice state park and the river is shallow so you are very safe to swim. Many families had the children out along the banks.
We visited St. Francois this past weekend, not our first visit to the park but our first camping stay.We love that the river is easily accessible for fishing, swimming, skimming rocks and letting the dogs get wet. When I say accessible I mean that people can get to the water, accessible for all abilities is not true, with some effort portions can be made accessible, with help from a friend, for people with limited disabilities. Plenty of pleasant hiking, bird watching, picnicing. We enjoyed the Swimming Deer Trail, the rocks and views were nice. A small cave on the hillside can be viewed. There is also equestrian trail opportunity. Bring a kite, there is a large open field at one of the day use areas. The campground is clean, nice sites, concrete pads and electric on one side, all non-electric on the other side. The non-electic portion has fairly roomy sites, the electric side is set up fairly typically, lots of pull through sites. Our site backed up to a rocky hill, very lovely. Hosts were pleasant. Firewood and ice available. Showers are individual, separate from bathroom, roomy and mainly clean (I am a bit shower-phobic so most people are probably really satisfied with the cleanliness). Bathroom is a bit of a distance from elecric sites and only one pit toilet so if you have kids and those that need bathroom nearby pick your site accordingly.
Love it. 3 lay grounds camp grounds 2 entrance to the river easy hiking trails and locals place to learn how to drive
Super Clean Nice Showers and Restrooms RV Hookups with electric and a dump station Great place to Visit Right on the Big River!
Park has several different playground and picnic areas. It is often used as a starting point for a float trip down the Big River. There is also camping at the park.
This park is well taken care of. The camping area as well as the whole park is well patrolled and secure. If you're South of St Louis take a drive through and get acquainted. Have fun, let me know if this was helpful.
My family went to this state park in 2010. We do a lot of camping within approx. 100 mile radius from home. Needless to say when we went to St. Francois State Park we was VERY pleased!!! Not to many state parks have the staff that enjoy their jobs. The bath house was cleaned every day some time twice a day! Also, the camp host was pretty nice. To give you an idea, I am extremely cautious about security when my family of six goes out anywhere. This is the first time that I could leave my "guard down" and relax. I recommend this park to everyone!!! As a matter of fact, my wife and I are trying to get my sister's family to go with us. My brother-in-law HATES camping and he is willing to try it with us. Oh by the way, we don't have a camper all tents!
Good trails to ride . YOu can take the short or the long trail. Nice and rocky - not like riding down a logging road.
