Good bday place for little kid although they took out some of the best exhibits. Pricey too and dont offer alot of extras.
This place is a nice but average place. We took our 3 year old and he enjoyed running from one thing to the next but was done after about an hour. The pretend shopping market was good, the bank was interesting and the water held his attention but overall just an average place. I wouldn't go again but I wouldn't tell you not to go either.
My grandson loves Discovery Playhouse. He likes the banking educational tools, the experimental stations, really, he loves everything in there! I love that they make learning fun for kids. Will definitely be going back, again and again :)
We went to the Discovery Playhouse, Nature Center, & then the Lazy L Safari. This place was great. We spent about an hour & a half to two hours here. My two year old loved it but my 9 year old was almost too old. They enjoyed the bank, the nursery, & the water tables. Kind of stunk that we had to pay admission for ourselves as well as my 13 year old but the small ones really enjoyed it.
I took my 3 year old daughter and 14 month old son. They both loved it. The grocery store and nursery were our favorites. As well as the airmaze.
We hadn't been to the museum in several years, we went this past weekend. I took my 8 year old, my 9 year old niece, and my 3 year old. We had a blast!!! They have made many improvements over the years. The girls enjoying being the bosses and playing bank, grocery store, doctor and dentist. The little one enjoyed sitting in the big fire truck and playing with the baby dolls in the baby nursery. We all had fun watching the foam balls go through the air pipes...simple entertainment for a great price! ($5/person) We spent about two hours there and they were wore out when we left! Good family fun!
Took my kids here on a weekly basis while staying in Cape Girardeau last fall. Love it. Such a wonderful place for children to play and staff is amazing!
There's a new exhibit at the Discovery Playhouse that is a lot of fun. It is an "Airmaze" that the kids (and adults) are having a lot of fun playing with!
My kids and I have been there several times. I try not to go too much because they make adults pay too. Not really happy about that because all I do is sit and watch. My kids really enjoy it. They have a firetuck, play area, music area, area where you can pretend to be a dentist, shopping area, banking area, water table, and many more. We can spend hours there. So much for the little ones to do.
We had my grandson's birthday party here and the kids had a blast. This fact had NOTHING to do with the employees there. There were not helpful or even friendly. I don't expect them to babysit the kids or anything, but at least be pleasant when you ask a question...some customer service training would be helpful here.
I'm writing this after our third or fourth time here. The first time we went, I took one step inside and thought, "Oh, no, this is never going to keep our kids occupied any length of time." It's very small, which is the only drawback I see to this place. I was wrong about it not keeping our kids occupied that day, though, and it still keeps them occupied after multiple visits, and so that's why I'm still giving it the 5-star rating. We stay 5+ hours everytime and our three kids-- ages 6, 7 & 8, are still asking not to leave when I march them out the door. They are hoping to one day have a second floor finished to greatly add to their space. In the meantime, they seem to constantly be doing changes in the small space they currently have to keep it fresh. This last time there were two completely redesigned areas, and both got rave reviews from our kids. As an added bonus, the front staff have always been exceptionally pleasant and helpful. I guess the best recommendation that could be given would be from our kids. When we go to a children's museum, they have the option of picking one larger, but they ask for this one everytime.
I took my two children (ages 7 and 4) and was upset that adults are charged admission. All exhibits are clearly made for young children and my older child was a little bored. The only highlight was the water table. Not worth the cost in my opinion.
Don't miss taking your kids to this well run, affordable, clean attraction. Nicely done Cape!
This is a great learning place where kids can run and have fun! Great trip for rainly day
Discovery Playhouse is a smallish children's museum that appears fairly new, and it also appears they are getting ready to expand further. Although on the smaller side, there was plenty for our toddler to occupy him for several hours. Being a smaller town, the museum was spacious and never crowded, which is a nice contrast to the bigger city children's museums (i.e. Magic House in STL).The toddler area was large and well-done. I'd say nearly 1/3 of the museum was dedicated to toddlers or younger.Nice location right downtown, with plenty of free parking in a lot across the street.Overall, if in Cape with kids I'd recommend a visit!
