The Missouri Wing of the Commerative (formerly Confederate) is located in a building annexed to a WWII “Quonset” style hangar. The museum features a number of displays and artifacts from the Second World War. There are also several restored WWII aircraft maintained in flying condition. The task of maintaining complex flying machines that are over 70 years old must be daunting. I found several WWII veterans serving as guides. Their knowledge and enthusiasm made the tour even more enjoyable. Although there is much to see, it is not an overwhelming task to see all that the museum has on display in several hours. Less for a more cursory visit. I was shown the large TBM Navy torpedo bomber (like the one Pres. George H.W. Bush flew in WWII) and found the B-25 bomber being services by a large crew of volunteers. Everyone there was helpful and anxious to explain what they could. The museum is very interesting in its own rite. However, it serves as a memorial to the brave veterans who fought in the European and Pacific skies of World War Two.The Museum is open on Thursdays and Saturdays during good weather. Missouri winters, particularly along the river, get very cold. I recommend checking before traveling very far. There is no Admission charge, but donations are accepted and appreciated. There is also a gift shop for interesting souvenir items. The facility is handicapped accessible and service dogs are welcome.Don’t miss it; its close and I intend to return.
