If you're looking for a great up-and-down hilly workout on a trail through the woods, then this is the one for you. The trail also goes alongside the Missouri River bluffs at one point with a fantastic view overlooking the river.

This trail is a great resource for the community. It was very well maintained, and excellent for both walkers and bicyclists. It was not too rocky or rough and plenty wide. I am a birder, and there was much to see and hear along the trail in June, with bird songs everywhere and many species to be found in a variety of habitats, including woods, fields and the river nearby.

A nice walk after a lunch in the old town St Charles area. They sometimes have events, Live bands. It can be a nice change to walk along with the river by your side

I like this trail for a nice afternoon walk. The views are beautiful and it's not too difficult, just enjoyable.

We hiked this trail in late fall/early winter of 2012 on a Saturday morning around 9 am. This is an actively busy trail with a variety of people -- serious trail runners, casual walkers, people with their dogs, semi-serious hikers, and serious hikers. This was not a difficult trail (the Clark Trail is only a little bit over 5 miles), however you do change elevations quite a bit. It is well-maintained, and the scenic views over the Missouri river were well-worth the hike. We actually saw a bald eagle in a tree on the other side of the river (Chesterfield side). Recommendations:- Don't go if it's very muddy, pretty slippery (unless you have walking poles to assist you).- Do be prepared to spend about two or more hours, so bring waters and a snack (there are places to sit at the scenic areas at the top of trail)- Bring your camera for great photos- There are a few steep inclines, so wear appropriate shoes (not a casual "flip-flops" trail)- Spring, Fall, and Winter are best times for this trail (summer tends to be very muggy and hot, and the bugs like you better then).- The gravel parking lot does fill up during peak weekends, so getting there early is best.Over all, this is a great trail and worth the stop.

I took the 5.3 mile route called the Clark Trail. You can also take the 8 mile route. I broke a sweat and had to breathe hard climbing some of the hills on the trail but I loved every minute of it. Took about 2.5 hours. The View off the Bluffs of the Missouri River was Awesome. Take a backpack and bring some Trail mix, or chocolate and bring some water. Take your trash out with you as it is primitive and no trash cans. Hit the bathroom in the gas station just before you get there as there is no toilet. Bring good fitting shoes that are broke in, this is a long walk.
