We visited the art museum on a Sunday. The building is beautiful. Admission is free! There was a wide variety of all types of art. A Van Gogh, and several Picassos. It was a very enjoyable visit. I would definitely recommend for the art lover and anyone else who doesn't realize they may be an art lover!

Worth an hour or two to browse around, with many time frames covered. Would like to go back during the summer and walk the grounds a bit.Bonus that it's free!

The kids are never thrilled about art museums but when you have the opportunity to explore and all for free you may as well make the best of it. Enjoy all the city has to offer. Spend money on food and souvenirs.

I visit this museum on every trip so it is rather like visiting a close friend. Located in beautiful Forest Park. It is free (which is wonderful, especially for a family outing) except for special exhibits. The musuem holds a representative collection from most major periods-from Sumerian cuneiform tablets to Anselm Kiefer. We had an excellent lunch served in the museum restaurant with attentive service, good food and wine and nice view. The staff throughout the musuem is personable and helpful. Also a good gift shop. Parking is available on the street and lots across form the museum as well as in the museum property proper ($15 for non-members). I have always found ample free parking. St. Louis can be justifiably proud of its Fine Arts Museum.

I was looking forward to attend some of the lectures here but missed out due to my hectic schedule. A great experience even otherwise as the paintings, drawing and sculptures are simply mesmerizing, so is the expanse of this recently renovated place. Revel in the timeless creations of Monet, Picasso and Gogh. The German art repository is particularly impressive. Next time round, I would try and relish the Sunday events here.

Wow- something for everyone. The Monet only on calendars- now in front of me. Water Lilies come to life. Di Vinchi we spent 3 hours just enjoying the paintings. The Museum has much to offer Ancient to Contemporary.

I am a Professor of Art History and Studio Art, and shuffle my students through here twice a year, as part of their grade is being able to answer questions about the artwork in this museum, from me, for points. I was supremely interested in the outcome of the renovations of this museum, hoping that it would expedite some of the admittedly very few shortfalls the museum had. I am happy to report that the changes made have vastly improved not only the format of viewing the art collection, but have put a great many new pieces on view, and have returned some old favorites that had disappeared for a while. The improvements in the restaurant service available are also very, very good. This is a top flight museum, with pieces from all ages of Art History. That is saying something! Their ancient art gallery is small, but there are outstanding pieces there. The Egyptian Gallery, the European Art, Asian Art, you will find pieces from everywhere on earth here.The new galleries are drop dead gorgeous. The traveling exhibits that are changed periodically are of the highest quality. AND: there are a great many pieces held here by the German Expressionists,( a great many magnificent German Expressionist artworks were sadly destroyed by Adolf Hitler before and during WWII.) Some of Max Beckmann's best works are here. There is a lot of parking, which sadly you must pay for now; but if you get here early, you can get a free spot in the lots directly in front of the museum. There are still a lot of free spots.

This really is a very good Art museum, I especially liked the Nick Cave exhibit. Something for every one to see and enjoy. Also, its free! So go ahead and pay for the underground parking. It is 15$ and your car will be safe. There is also a large free lot, without surveillance cameras, and where my rental car was broken into and robbed. STLPD said said thieves are pretty bold, so go and enjoy,just park safely.

The St. Louis Art Museum is a pleasant one. The building itself is a classic, and the collection is quite nice. The museum is free, and there is a nice restaurant and a decent cafe. My wife discovered a wonderful painting by Gari Melchers (Vespers). We visited in the dead of winter, but I'm sure the ground in Forest Park are wonderful in the other three seasons.

The title is not meant to damn with faint praise - I live in London, and I'm spoilt for great museums. SLAM is a very good museum, with an excellent permanent collection and some very interesting special exhibitions. We caught the end of Atua: Sacred Art from Polynesia, which was fascinating and eye-opening, despite us being familiar with the collection in the British Museum. SLAM has the only Holbein in North America, "Mary, Lady Guildford", which I'd seen in the big London exhibitin a few years back, and which is worth a visit on its own. There's a very fine Andrea della Robbia terracotta of Mary, Mother of Sorrows - in excellent condition. There are some very good John Singleton Copleys. I won't go on - just to say it is a wide ranging colelction, eclectic, not too big, ideal for wandering around. The staff are lovely, clearly proud of their museum. The building is beautiful (the old part was built for the 1904 World's Fair - "meet me in St Louis, Louis", that one) and there is a fine extension by the British architect Sir David Chipperfield, opened a year or so ago. It's free, except for special exhibitions, and those are free on Fridays when the hours are extended too. Closed Mondays, though. Well worth the visit.

Didn't have a chance to visit the special exhibition, but they have a very good - and eclectic - collection. I particularly enjoyed the modern art - Picasso, Beckmann, Matisse.

It took a while to find this place but oh, so worth it! One of the best city museums we have visited---and it was FREE! Loved the paintings and especially loved the Degas ballerina there! Didn't get to visit the gift shop as it closed right at the closing of the museum. If you are in St. Louis, this is a "must"!

The St. Louis Art Museum is also a free attraction, housed in one of the few building left standing after the 1904 World's Fair. There are fees for special exhibits, except Fridays, where all is free. Parking is free too, but you may have to hunt for it. The museum has several additions housing its ever-growing collections, and is definitely worth a visit. There's an on-site restaurant with so-so food, but they're working on that.

I could spend all day in the Art Museum. Would be boring for the kiddies but if you love are this is a must see.
