One of the few bits of real culture in Kansas City, the Nelson-Atkins isn't big, but it is beautiful. The displays are nicely presented and well-lighted. The cafe/coffee shop on the premises serves decent lunch dishes. The outdoor grounds are well-kept and beautifully green. I also like that they do outdoor exhibits on the front lawn from time to time. Always interesting to drive by and see what they've got out there.

This is a first class museum that hasthe largest Meng Dynasty collection in the US. Many different special displays are there for the visitor, and the range of art covers everything. You can easily spend 4 hours visiting the museum, and the guides there are very helpful in pointing out various attractions. For the art lover, it's a 'must see'.

Unbelievable collection of art - great building. Spending 2 or 3 hours on each of several days would not be unreasonable for this deep collection of the world's treasures. There are also nearby museums which are worth a look.

This museum is in a lovely building and full of fantastic art from all eras. The Chinese art area is amazing. The little restaurant had very good sandwiches and lots of fun flavored waters.

I'd planned an afternoon at this museum and quickly learned I would need a couple of days to see everything of interest to me. What a stunning museum. Free admission. Parking in the attached ramp was $8. I believe the first 30 minutes of parking in the ramp was free for those dashing in to the gift shop, smartly located at the ramp's entrance to the building. There was a lot of free on-street parking as well. Great for families. Several docents available for questions and to help. A lovely bookstore/gift shop on site. In addition to the fantastic works of art, I also enjoyed the Rozzelle Court restaurant. I also happened to be lucky enough to be at the museum during the Kansas City Girls & Boys Choral performances. What a treat!

could have spent more time here! Be sure to walk the ground and enjoy the outdoor sculptures. It was a great morning walk around to view the art and the area.

I love visiting this art museum. some museums have an attitude that the art is more important than the people seeing it. This place has its priorities right….both are important. Make sure you grab a bite to eat in the dining room. The cafeteria style service keeps the prices reasonable but they are attentive once you seat yourself and the setting is so relaxing, like sitting in a palace courtyard. The museum is free and some days the special exhibits are too. Always a treat…my must-see in KC nearly every trip there. You can easily and safely walk there from Country Club Plaza.

First of all, it is free. But more than that, the different exhibits and artworks will appeal to all tastes. My daughters and I spent an entire day here and we all got to see something that moved us in different ways. The staff is friendly and helpful and the museum is just beautiful.

The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art has one of the largest and most prestigious Asian art collections in the World! In addition, they have a newer addition that was listed as one of the top 100 architectural designs in the world. They are always featuring interesting exhibits, most recently a Native American art exhibit and Frida Kahlo. This is a must see for all art lovers. In addition, they have a wonderful restaurant and beautiful sculpture park. Do not miss this museum!

Shame on us for waiting 13 years since our move to the Kansas City area before visiting this gem of a museum. We have travelled to other cities on vacation and visited other museums whilst ignoring the treasure in our own backyard. Admission is free! Parking a reasonable $8 but there is plenty of street parking for free as well! We enjoyed starting with the antiquities, which are among our favorites, then progressed to the European art collections. Spent 3.5 hours browsing and took a delightful break in the Rozelle Court restaurant, where the food prices were very reasonable for such a venue. My wife and I split a chicken salad (excellent!) and a bowl of Indian spiced chicken soup, perfect for a cold winters day.The staff was exceptional, several of the docents went out of their way to engage us and answer questions about the exhibits we were seeing. The cafe staff was vey friendly as well and the coat check was free too and came with a very friendly person giving us tips for our next visit. Can't hardly wait!

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is a must-see for every person who lives in the region. Seriously - it is free! What a gift. Seeing when items were purchased and who has made donations of money or art to make this museum a success is almost as interesting as looking at all the art and changing exhibits. We didn't try the restaurant when we were there, BUT if the line of people pouring out the door waiting for a table was any indication . . . it is worth the visit as well.

Whether you are single, a couple, or a family, the Nelson has something for everyone. The large grounds have a great sculpture garden which is perfect for running, playing, and picnics. Inside there are fantastic galleries featuring art from the ancient times all the way through modern day. You could spend an entire day and not see it all. The Nelson also has many cultural celebrations! Here are a few tips:1. ARRIVE EARLY!- these celebrations can bring people by the hundreds, arrive early to avoid the rush.2. Grab a map- there is a lot to do and see, so get a map and decide what are your must sees and what you can skip.3. Bring cash! Most cultural days offer traditional snacks that you will want to try (trust me)4. Be polite- there are a lot of people, and a lot of kids. Remind your children to talk quietly during performances, and remind them not to touch any art work unless htey are given permission.

Nice venue with an extensive collection housed in a very cool building. Make sure to walk around the gardens outside. Worth a trip!

Chinese exhibit was incredible, but my family enjoyed the European art exhibit as well as the native american Indian art... Pleasant surprise - we were staying in Country Club Plaza and found the museum a short walk from town. Family enjoyed it and the grounds were a good walk. Glass maze was a hit.
