Have vacationed on the Gulfcoast since the early 70's, and patronized the Spoke since the early 90's. First impression, from the outside, the place looks 'bad'. Then, if you feel brave enough to enter, it looks worse. But, have no fear, this place is just 'real'. A limited supply of bottled beer only, but if it was any colder it would be frozen, and if it was any cheaper you'd be sitting at home begging your wife to serve you! The 'locals' couldn't be more 'local', or more 'friendly' and 'polite'. Have seen folks in various states of inebriation, to the point of extreme. Have never been bothered, and never seen even the start of a problem.
We just wanted to see the place because we are Packer fans and had just attended a game in New Orleans. We were there in the morning and they were closed, which we expected. The owner happen to be there and let us inside to see the place. It is not what I expected, but thought it was funny. They gave a marker so we could write our names on the walls. They were very nice and we took a couple of pictures and went on our way.
I was surprised to see all the bras hanging from the ceiling but thought it might be typical of a biker bar so I took a good look around and high tailed it out of there. This is a rustic, rough looking place and I did not tarry. Not the place for a lady.
We stopped in Kiln because we are Green Bay Packers fans and it is the home of Brett Favre. I`ve ready pretty much everything there is to read about Favre and the Broke Spoke seemed to be the place that kept coming up regarding Kiln, MS. If you are looking for a yuppie, fancy bar this likely isn`t the place for you. The Broke Spoke has thousands of bras hanging from the roof, the walls are covered with football memorabilia (mostly Favre stuff) and where there isn`t memorabilia on the walls there is people`s signatures and other writings. The people there were super friendly and the Bud Light was cold. Just my kind of place. Would love to have been there for a Packer game back during Favre`s heyday, but sadly those days are over.
