Best to go during the week or it feels like you are on a Disney ride because it is one kayak right after another all the way down.

We loved kayaking on the river with our church group on a recent Saturday. The river was great! The people who run the operation know how to support you having a good time. We arrived, paid, and waited for a bus to take our group and others upstream. We kayaked for about four or five hours stopping along the way. The manageable "waterfalls" were fun and exciting. Being a Louisiana girl, I was surprised to see the rocks in the river so far south. At the "four hour" trip point we were helped out and transported back to the outpost. The clean showers were nice to find at the end of the trip.

Okatoma Outdoor Post is a rental center for kayaks and canoes near Hattiesburg MS. They also provide transportation for kayak owners. For $20 they took us and our 2 kayaks to and from the river. The paddle was about 3 hours, mostly in gentle current. There were 3 small "water fall" areas, that added some excitement to the trip. The kayakers did well. However, I saw several canoes flip in the last fall area. The post has a very nice shower facility to use after returning from the river. We had a great time and will definitely come back to Okatoma Outdoor Post.

Myself and a group of friends have been coming here two to three times a year for over a decade. The river isn't just a flat run. There are a few small water falls (manageable by canoe) on this river that make it more then just a float. The river is clean and everyone (patrons included) keep it that way. Camping can be done on the river bank or at that campground. We have done it both ways and enjoyed it anyway we can. Camping on site is only $5 a person. It's doesn't matter if you're with a group of rowdy friends for a weekend trip or a church group on a day trip; the trip is a great time!I highly recommend you check it out! It's worth the drive! I have many great memories of this place...and plan to have many, many more!
