Had guests from Norway visiting and did a tour of the park. All ages (8-68) enjoyed the adventure. Availability to pet the animals and feed giraffe was outstanding
thank you Sheila for taking us through the park today on off season.we loved it. This is a great place to stop if you are in the Tupelo area. Joe the camel is a favorite character you are sure never to forget
Visitors have a couple of options one the bison bus tour which I assume was a bus ride out to the backside of the property to view buffalo. We opted for the $10 walk through which was a small area one walked through viewing monkeys, antelope type animals, one tiger and several kinds of birds as well as a reptile house. Worth doing once but average city zoos typically offer much more.
I have been seeing things here & there about this place for a while. On their website, I noticed that there were several exotic animals in addition to the other animals there. So I thought it might be a good attraction for my children & myself. The website specifically mentioned (and still does) the exotic animals included a bear, tiger, mountain lion. There was no sign of these three animals. The exotic & other animals that were there, lived in unbearable conditions. The lioness or female lion had the worst conditions, unfortunately for her. I was horrified & astonished at the conditions this majestic animal is forced to undergo there. The lioness was kept in a small metal wire cage with a concrete floor. There was a wooden table in the center of this enclosure where she laid all day long. For "enrichment", the lioness had a large orange barrel & an old used tire tied with rope above the wooden table. That is all she had, no grass, trees, room to run & play, etc. And the water in her trough was filthy & green. My son became very upset as did I. This is completely unacceptable & is abuse on every level. I have had trouble sleeping after experiencing this & I can't believe anyone would think treating any animal this way is okay. We did see & feed the buffalo. I noticed that a couple of the buffalo that came up to feed had large open, draining wounds present. So, there are a lot of suffering on the part of the animals here.Apart from the horrific treatment of the animals here, there were other issues. The cost of admission was extremely overpriced. It cost around $15.00 a person to enter the park & see the buffalo. We were supposed to receive a map according to the website so we would know where to go but we did not receive anything. The girl at the counter did not direct us in which way to go to start so it was confusing to figure out where everything was at first. The girl at the counter was also very rude. I did not realize there was no food or snacks of any kind being sold at the park. You could buy soft drinks in the gift shop but no food of any kind which was surprising. It is advertised as a zoo but it is not close to any legitimate zoo I have been to. Overall, the place is fairly small to house these kinds of animals & the conditions the animals live in is nothing short of horrible. The admission is extremely pricey for what is available & the staff member who works the front was very rude. Several animals listed on the website as being in the park were not present & I can only imagine what there fate was at this place. My son was very upset by the overall experience as well.
We visited the park and do not regret it! All the workers in the park were very nice and very helpful in the explanations. Being able to feed and touch some of the animals was a great experience. A great thanks to the buffalo tour driver who tried so hard to call the buffalo over that decided they weren't going to listen. Another worker was able to attract the other animals over and allowed for us to experience them as well. Joe the camel was a pleasant experience to feed. I'd highly recommend this place!
This is an idea place to take the family, something for everyone. They do a very nice job with the animals and tell you just about everything about Buffalo's
Great place for birthday parties. Tour the entire grounds on a bus. A variety of wild animals, more that just buffalo. Not too expensive.
To be honest when we first got there I didn't think that it was going to be as much fun as they had advertised to be but fortunately we was wrong and it had everything plus more that we had inspected we had a wonderful time is specially have an opportunity to feed the Buffalo and the giraffe aka tall boy!
I had mixed thoughts about visiting this site after reading reviews. What I think we need to keep in mind is this is one of the only opportunities for area residents to see some of the exotic animals. That doesn't mean the habitats/enclosures can be lacking, however.Let me start at the beginning. We arrived and purchased our tickets. received a AAA discount. Staff was friendly. Gift shop has a lot of items for kids (stuffed animals, walking sticks, t-shirts) and also cold drinks. We arrived just before the 10am trolley tour of the buffalo range so that's what we did first (additional $3 ticket). The driver provided a lot of facts and information and his delivery style was such that we could easily understand (not too fast, not too slow, very clear). Seemed genuinely interested in his job and the animals. They are building some new habitat/large pasture enclosures for some the larger animals currently in the "zoo" portion, so that will be nice for the animals when it's finished. We saw many animals and I think the highlight for everyone were the baby zebras and baby buffalo. The trolley takes 1 hour and stops about 2/3 way where you can get off and get up close to feed the buffalo. This was actually pretty cool. I have seen bison in the wild before and except for having them right next to the car in WY and SD I haven't been so comfortable seeing these magnificent beasts. After the trolley we walked through the zoo portion. The snakes/reptiles are interesting, but might benefit from newer and larger exhibits (costs money, I know). The bird aviary was also interesting but the cages should go and the birds given more space. I'm sure people who have never been to some of the world class zoos and animal parks have no idea the conditions possible for animal health and well-being.My favorite part was the goat pen. There is a herd of about a dozen pygmy goats. You can buy goat crunchies and feed them, which was absolutely delightful. The goats are tame and very friendly. I could have spent hours there. There are some other animals along the way including some from Africa (moving to new habitat soon), emus, llamas, burros, 2 giraffe, some water fowl, various monkeys and primates, coyotes, and a lion. I felt the worst for the female lion as she doesn't have much space and it's all concrete. This should be changed at a minimum. That girl needs more space. All in all I did enjoy my visit, but agree with previous reviewers improvements to habitat could be made. I realize this is possibly the only opportunity some people will have to see these creatures up close and aren't as fortunate as I have been to see them in the wild, in their natural habitat, so I understand why it's popular. With a few improvements in habitat the animals could be much happier and I know that does cost money. The only complaint in guest services is a lack of water fountains and really no food on site. There are drinks for sale in the gift shop but no food available. Bring your own and have a picnic at the available shaded tables. I ended up using the sink to refill my water bottle as I couldn't find a water fountain.
Daughter enjoyed the animal feeding. Train ride was comfortable. Staff was very kind and knowledgeable. Some enclosures were quite small. Would have preferred to seen domestic kind of animals only as opposed to exotic animals.
Nothing seen better in England very bump ride around waste land could count animals on one hand. No food on site to have any lunch and staff who we're working in park we're not very friendly even to the point of being rude
Nice little zoo/park. Kids seems to enjoy feeding the animals especially the giraffe! The bear and tiger area do need to be in a larger open area instead of a cage. To see some changes would definitely make this place more enjoyable. There is quiet a bit of land so expanding doesn't seem to be a problem.
Anyone who thinks this place is great is sick in the head. The enclosures are too small. That poor lion, you can hear him roar in the evening when the park is closed, is stuck in a tiny concrete and metal pen. It's pitiful. The buffalo, giraffes, zebras and cattle are allowed to roam around but all the other animals live in pitiful conditions. And those poor little ponies tied up on that round thing all day!!! Horrible. I am all for supporting local attractions, but this borders very closely to animal abuse. I do not understand someone loving this place!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Prices weren't too bad, cute gift shop. The cages were a little small for the animals though. Plenty of grass for grazing animals. I recommend the giraffe feeding, the trolley ride through the acres, and the horse back riding. Overall pretty fun.
This was one of the saddest parks I have ever seen. The lion was pacing back and forth in its tiny concrete cage with a metal table in the middle. The buffalos seemed to have some sort of skin disease. The monkeys were in tiny cages along with the giraffes. This place is seriously disgusting and sad and should be shut down. I do not know how people support this or the owners sleep at night unless they have no idea what is going on which is doubtful. Where do these animals come from? How do they get them? They would have honestly been better off suffering in their natural habitat than being abused by these terrible human beings. There is way too much land for the animals to all be confined in these small places. I am going to change this when I move to Tupelo and I hope that people will start to open their eyes. This place has got to be shut down or renovated. These animals are suffering for pure entertainment. This is completely unacceptable and made me and the family I came with extremely sad and uncomfortable.
