Ditto to all the other excellent reviews. Ditto, ditto, ditto. Yes we really, really had a great time
A friend and I wanted to go kayaking, so we stopped by Indian River Marina. The staff was incredibly friendly, the service was reasonably priced, and the location is absolutely gorgeous. What a fun and beautiful morning we had! If you like kayaking/canoeing, then you must try this place out!
Came here for the second time to rent a kayak. The staff was really friendly and very through with the safety briefing, even though I have kayaked in the area before on many occasions. Had such a great time and the day couldn't have been more perfect, even though I did end up in the ocean! Place was nice and clean with a separate bathroom and changing room. best place on the shoreline for boating, that is for sure.
We spent a wonderful couple of hours at Indian River Marina taking three Kayaks out for as long as we wanted. Staff are informed, welcoming and flexible. The two children (10 and 12) were able to kayak under their own steam very happily with their guidance.
Wanted to do something different and found Indian River Marina. What a delight, from the second we arrived we greeted by the friendly staff who provided all the info we needed prior to getting into the kayak for 2 hours of fun paddling in the warm sun. Very senic area and I will be back.
Came here for the first time to rent a kayak. Sadly we didn't call to make a reservation for a 2 person kayak, but instead rented a canoe. The staff was really friendly ! Had such a great time and the day couldn't have been more perfect. Place was nice and clean with a separate bathroom and changing room. Would I recommend this place? Heck yes. Would I come back? I did twice and will continue to go there !
Yesterday my husband and I (from CO) rented a tandem kayak from Indian River Marina. We had to call for reservations since it was Sept and mid week. Off season. Cathy answered the phone immediately and with good information on tides and directions we headed off. The facility was clean and we noticed immediately what nice equipment they had. Clean and up-to-date. We rented at other places around the country and this by far was the best. The routes to take and safety information were given by Cathy. The map was easy to follow. Cathy told us about a lovely sandy island where we had lunch and just enjoyed walking around. If you only want to rent for an hour it is worth the time. If you want to go longer you will find more than enough places to go and still not see everything. The prices were fair and it is a lot of fun. We didn't go on the sound and had more than enough places to kayak. It is for all levels of experience. We are in our 70's and had no problem. We certainly hope to return when we come back to CT and HIGHLY recommend you rent your kayak, paddle board or canoe here. Read the other reviews. They give more information. No need to repeat. It was a wonderful day. Thanks Cathy.
My sister and I rented kayaks from Indian River for the first time, and boy are we glad we did. We will be back, for sure. The facility and equipment is clean, well maintained, and has restrooms where one can change clothes, if needed. The people were nice and very knowledgeable. They provide a laminated map of the area, which fits neatly under the straps of the kayak so that it can be viewed while paddling. There were several choices of kayak types, and plenty of boats when we went. After a succinct safety review by Kathy from the Marina, launching was a piece of cake. Lots of interesting things to look at in the area, and there was plenty of good bird watching when we went. I can't wait to do this again.
Thanks to TripAdvisor we found a great new place to kayak. My wife and I had a friend with us so we needed to rent a third boat. Cathy at Indian River Marina was terrific and she has a great launching area. She provides a good selection of kayaks and all the necessary equipment, but she also gives you an excellent overview of the area with a map and photos of landmarks. The Indian River leads into Clinton Harbor which is fun, but you can also venture into two other rivers from there or head out into the Long Island Sound. Lots of good kayaking adventure that can be easily tailored to a novice skill level or expert.Clean bathroom and changing facilities are just a plus.
Following the advise of other TripAdvisor reviews, we went to Clinton's Indian River Marina to kayak. My wife and I have our own equipment, but we had a guest with us who needed a rental. Cathy and her staff were most helpful. We were allowed to launch at no cost because our friend rented. (If you just want to launch, there is a modest parking/launching fee). Nice faciltiy with clean bathrooms and a changing room.Cathy provides a laminated map of the area and provides a helpful orientation including photos to help paddlers new to the area. It is helpful because there are many alternative areas to paddle. The Indian River feeds into the Clinton Harbor. From there you can access two other rivers or paddle around several marinas. If you are more experienced, you can venture out into Long Island Sound. The tide is not a major factor due to plenty of good channels, but of course high tide allows you to enter many more areas than are available at low tide.
This place has a ton of kayaks for rent with a quick and informative instruction piece in the beginning. Its is safe and fun for all ages and the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The river is beautiful and you have a short paddle to the town beach or Cedar Island. Love it!
I was just home visiting family for the weekend and my girlfriend and I were lucky to find this place online. We enjoyed it so much the first day paddle-boarding that we came back and kayaked in the morning. They give great tips about the area and are very accommodating. I would definitely go back to them on my next visit.
We're considering buying kayaks but have never been on the water. So having seen an ad for Indian River Marina kayak rentals, I made a reservation. What a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE! The folks were accomodating, pleasant and very knowledgeable. With handy laminated maps and some basic instruction, we were off for a great day on the water. I'm sure we'll go again to try different models. Thanks so much!
A wonderful experience for kayakers of every level - beginners or advanced.A choice of several, well kept kayaks. Owner is very helpful, rates are reasonable and boats are clean & comfortable.I'll be returning!
I've rented from them, and they're affordable and easy and friendly. They can help you select the right boat and you can stay out as long as you want to. You pay by the hour when you return. They provide the paddle and flotation jacket, and they tell you the basics of how to paddle. Fast, easy, simple, just a great day on the water, right near Meigs point in the Hamonassett state park and wildlife preserve. The coastline is beautiful and full of various birds from cranes, herons, osprey and others. Bring binoculars and a camera. I've bought 2 used boats from them at incredible prices. If you're small like me (5'0", 110 pounds) try the tribute 12. It's the boat I bought, designed for women. So comfortable!Paddling is great. Anyone can do it. You'll be hooked right away!
