My husband's small consulting company decided to put a new twist on the annual company dinner. up a bit. This year we came to the Silo Cooking school to help create the meal we would eat. Most of us enjoy and are comfortable cooking. We each learned a few new techniques and made a meal that was quite tasty. Best of all, we had time to hang out and chat in small groups. I always find out interesting things about people if I am involved in an activity with them. Not only did we enjoyeating/drinking and talking, but we also got to chop, stir, sauté and create together. The cost is about the same as a fancy dinner out ( about $100 per person for food and wine), but we also got to learn new thinks about food preparation and each other!!
I loved the intimacy of the cooking class- around twelve of us got to help the renowned chef during the class, the stools were a big uncomfortable though. One great thing was we got to eat everything we cooked! Also got to meet some 'famous' peopletaking the class. After the class shopped in the cooking store like a kid in a candy store you can go crazy I there. They also happened to be having an art exhibit on another floor which I took the time to enjoy before I went home. Later I registered my little boy for some kids cooking classes which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Kitchen cooking items were higher priced here than they would have been in our area south of the Merritt Parkway but probably priced appropriately for the New Milford market. Fun to look at what one could buy if they had a large enough kitchen to hold specialty items. We bought a few simple things figuring that was the price of admission to the Museum. Since one staff member was there, she had to be sure no shoppers were in the offing before letting us up into the museum. It held some Skitch Henderson memorabilia- New York Pops concert posters, circus items, Steinway piano, etc. Interesting but we wished there was someone there who knew more about Skitch's life to answer our questions.
