Only G...a must for Gertrude Jekyll designed English garden stateside I believe. Very cottage garden, a must for home gardeners. House is also very interesting - typical New England but with an interesting history. Gift shop also.
We came to visit the lovely small garden - one of only three gardens in the U.S. designed by Gertrude Jekyll, the famous British landscape designer. We were not disappointed. Despite the oppressive heat of the day we spent a lovely hour touring the garden and enjoying the ambiance. The two staff women in the house were most helpful and friendly. This was a delightful stop on our way through the Litchfield Hills.
We went to see the garden, which is small, but the house tour had good historical significance and there were unusual beds, a marvelous original indigo quit that looked brand new but was soo old, an odd blood letting device etc. Pictures, furnishings and guide's commentary made for an interesting tour.
This house was built before the revolutionary war and has authentic period furnishings. Our tour guide was dressed in period clothing and was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were there on a rainy day so unfortunately we didn't get to visit the gardens.
This is a delightful place to visit with its early colonial house, lovely gardens and a charming gift shop--all in the center of beautiful Woodbury, CT!
This was the best history lesson I've ever had. It takes about an hour to tour the house, and, as you go through each room, your very-knowledgable guide provides a detailed description of what life was like back then.
