Went to see Reverberation at the Hartford Stage. I won't review the play here (I very much enjoyed it), but would like to comment on the exceptional service and friendliness of the volunteers and staff at the Stage. I had a chance to chat up several of them and I was grateful for their good nature, their education and their helpfulness. I look forward to returning over the summer!
My playgirl & I sat right up front in the "floor seating",the 1st Act was right above us but for the rest of the play we were in the front room with them. I once had a girlfriend just like Sybil & it was a lotta fun seeing her again. The laughter was contagious, everyone joined in.I'm recommending it to everyone.
First time attending a production of this stage company. It was a wonderful experience. Intimate theatre with seats in good view of the stage. Parking was easy to find and convenient. They sell coupons for the parking($6.50). Tickets a little difficult to order on line but calling the box office was helpful. Great seats at a reasonable price. I will deffinitely go again!
Went to see a Christmas Carol here. The theater is excellent. Seats are positioned well so everyone can see. Good sound system and great acoustics. Nice bar and concession area - reasonably priced for a theater. Well decorated for the holidays. The staff and volunteers are extremely friendly and accommodating. Looking forward to my next visit!
If you have the chance, run, do not walk, to see the production of Hamlet at the Hartford Stage in Hartford, Connecticut. The production showcases Shakespeare at its best. The director has chosen a young man, Zach Appelman, in the title role. His intent seems to be to bring Hamlet to light as a young man, with all the doubt, emotion and bewilderment of youth. It succeeds brilliantly. Every member of the cast rises to the occasion to add tension and intensity to the play, where the audience is mesmerized. You simply cannot look away. The staging was brilliant, the dialogue made easily understandable, sets perfect and non intrusive, lighting and costumes wonderful, etc. Every aspect of this play was simply brilliant. Even the fight and death scenes, which can seem contrived and evoke humor, were skillfully staged. This is certainly one of the best theater experiences I have ever had and I would highly recommend Hamlet with any reservations to anyone. Congratulations Mr. Darko Tresnjak on yet another exceptional production.
This is a small, local stage with excellent productions. I recently saw ETHER DOME and HAMLET at this small theater. The acting was exceptional in both productions. While ETHER DOME was fairly long (with 2 intermissions), it was very compelling. HAMLET was absolutely outstanding. The production was riveting, and the play moved along at a quicker pace. Quite noteworthy were the special effects. There is not a bad seat in the house, and the staff persons are ready to assist.
Outstanding theater experience always at Hartford Stage. Excellent seating. Superb acting and directing. We have been going for over twenty years and have been season subscribers for the past several years. Shakespearian plays are always superb! There is a nice bar, and the restrooms are spacious and immaculate.
Not a bad seat in the house. Never disappointed. Go here often with friends and family. Professional and worth every penny. CT's own Broadway.
Always have enjoyed the theatre productions immensely. Every seat in the house is great. Can be as good as Broadway!
The Hartford Stage is a small, intimate theater that stages 1st class productions. There are almost no bad seats in the house with great sightlines throughout the venue. Parking is relatively easy and inexpensive in the garage next door and on the street . "The Queen of Connecticut," lobby is open with a 'homey' feeling. Containing a gift shop, nice lighting and room to move freely. They sell beer, wine, and small snacks before and during shows. There are several nice restaurants within a few blocks. Hartford Stage brings interesting, high-quality theater to Hartford.. Nice, small, intimate theater that has been renovated relatively recently.
...then you should definitely make The Hartford Stage a stop. This is truly excellent theater in a small setting at a reasonable price. The theater's pedigree is impeccable - original productions that regularly make Broadway or off-Broadway, and more than it's share of Tony and Obie awards. And it's a venue where some of the world's finest stage talent drops in to shine for an occasional production. The sets are wonderful, the production values excellent. Really, in almost 25 years of fairly regular attendance, I've only rarely walked out wanting more. Not enough? This year's most nominated Broadway play, "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder," started at the Hartford Stage and went straight to Broadway. It's Tony-nominated director? The Hartford Stage's Creative Director, Darko Tresnjak.
Nominated for 10 Tony awards for its world premier "A Gentleman's Guide to Murder:, Hartford Stage continues its commitment to classical as well as contemporary theater. A small theater with great views from every seat, it is tribute to the Greater Hartford community's dedication to live drama that it continues to thrive. Just saw "Somewhere". Story of hispanic family dreaming of a better life and hoping to find it through dance and drama, while being evicted from their home on Upper West Side of NYC to make way for Lincoln Center. Fabulous characters and dance scene at end of show worth price of admission.
My husband and I just saw Somewhere and we loved it! It was funny, sad and very entertaining. The theatre is small but you get top notch production. There is no bad seat in the Theatre.
Hartford Stage has been at the top of our entertainment list for several years. We thoroughly enjoy our visits throughout the season. We have moments of humor, serious drama, and many, many thoughtful moments. We are particularly enjoying the artistic direction of Darko. The selection of plays is varied and well produced. Hartford Stage is truly a feather in the cultural cap of the Hartford audience.
Hartford Stage consistently provides theater of the highest quality, whether it is contemporary drama, classic plays, or musicals. The acting, directing, set design are all first rate. We like the variety of the productions that bring both modern and classic works to each season. It is a gem of downtown Hartford.
