buckroe beach and park

We were traveling through Hampton and decided to see the new housing being built at the beach. Of course nothing was going on due to the weather but the new housing seems to be a nice addition to the area. We've always enjoyed this beach as it is not as big, crowded and busy as Virginia Beach. If only Buckroe could have some restaurants and amenities.

In all honesty, Buckroe is a little shaggy, a little sorry. Locals don't care, we love it. But travelers to the area would complain that there are no amenities, no nearby restaurants, only one hotel, nothing else nearby to do. The water is calm, which means there are jellyfish in the summer, and most people driving from parts west will keep going to busy oceanfront in Virginia Beach. That's fine because the locals prefer uncrowded Buckroe.

A great place to relax and watch the waves roll in. No vendors, no pan handlers, and no parking fees. Lots of free entertainment in the summer months - bands, movies, exhibits. Beach is very clean and Hampton police are usually visible. Life guards are on duty during the day. Beach is closed at sunset. Mostly locals go here, which means that it is usually not crowded (except for special events). Family friendly.

My kids wanted to visit a beach. We were here for a family reunion and it was a lot cleaner than what I remember as a kid. I like that there was a station to clean the sand off because I hate sand. We plan on going back this summer.

Really nothing to down there but sit and look at the bay. The locals really enjoy it though. You have to venture through the slums of hampton to get there.

Great spot to swim and be on the bay. A bit of a rough side of town with the odd pan handler, it is still a very nice place to visit and free!!

It may have been the time of year we visited, but while this is a nice beach and park, there isn't much to it. it is a nice beach and it's a good spot to stretch your legs after Christmas Dinner :-) if you are looking for a moderate walk. There are also some picnic pavilions and a big center pavilion that is probably used for concerts and things in the summer.

This tiny beach is not like the commercial busy beaches but is kind of tucked away from the mainstream traffic & commercialization , a very clean place . The beach offers 2 shelters for rent with grills , has a walkway , a bike trail along the beach . It also offers kayaks & paddle boats for rent . Lots of concerts on Sundays in Summer where you can bring a picnic,a blanket & enjoy the whole atmosphere . The park offers restrooms as well as outside water faucets to get the sand off . No pets are allowed though. Parking is a bit difficult on the weekends but it is for free . We go there every Father's day weekend & end up having a great time.

Yes, the beach is right here in Hampton but it could be so much better. Parking is difficult on a busy day . The beachgoers can be kind of strange here and I agree with the previous reviewer that we do not feel safe all the time. It pays to be careful. There are also no concessions here so bring all your provisions with you. Bathrooms are available and nice. From time to time there are movie nights and concerts. Do check the schedule for those.

great beach. we love going here every time we come to the hampton/newport news area. usually too cold to get into the water but still very nice beach

The pier is by fee only even just to take a look. The neighborhood does nothing to capitalize on the beachfront location. I am not entirely sure I felt safe here during the off season.

My wife and I were looking to find a beach near Williamsburg to walk along the water, and found reviews for Buchroe Beach and Park. We visited it on a Saturday in late September and found it immaculately groomed - the staff obviously take great care in keeping the beach clean. We went out on the smaller pier and had a great view. While it was too cool for swimming, it was a great spot to watch the water for a while.

The park is clean, well kept and a nice place to watch the ships and boats in the Chesapeake Bay. I'm not sure how safe it is in the park after dark.

This beach was much less crowded than Virginia Beach,there was tons of parking which is free. Great location! Kids had a blast.

Free Parking close to the beach. Clean Bathrooms. Family Oriented. Only problem was they wanted you to pay to just walk out onto the pier.
