This is a small "safari park" a few miles off of I-81 exit 80. It has goats and deer and camels and buffalo and all sorts of other hoofed animals, big birds and monkeys (no lions, tigers etc). At the ticket office area, goats wander around freely and the kids have a great time feeding them, naming them and just playing with them (I did not know goats are so friendly). Then you get in an old school bus with no windows and you ride around the rest of the park, where the big fun is the camel sticking his slobbery face into the bus to get some treats (kids love it, parents not so much). Entrance fee is very reasonable.
Had a lot of fun watching my 8 year old feed the animals. my 18 yr old loved it too. It was a great day. Nice friendly people!!
We came back this year after visiting in 2013. Puff was the highlight again. Love the new merchandise featuring Puff!!! We plan on coming back in 2015!
This is a great place to stop and stretch your legs on a long trip or something in the area to do during the day! Super nice people. Very knowledgeable about all the animals. We had lots of fun feeding the animals on the tour and seeing the animals out enjoying their day.
This is such a wonderful animal park! Hands down, this is one of the best experiences that I have had visiting an animal park. To get the chance to see these beautiful animals super close, and to feed them is a wonderful experience for all ages. Our guide was so sweet, and she gave us a lot of great information about the park, and the animals. The great thing about this park, is that you board a bus, and drive through the park. The animals literally come up to the bus, and in many cases, poke their heads through the open windows! You can feed a camel, a bison, zebras, antelopes, ostriches, pot belly pigs, just to name a few. They have feed for sale, and actually encourage you to feed the animals. Believe me, the animals love it!! They will keep poking their heads in for more! It's hilarious watching them trotting beside the bus. You really feel like you are out in the wild with these beautiful animals, and what an experience to have them so close to you! We had all ages on the bus, and everyone had a wonderful time! This is a great family spot, and lots of fun. There is a nice, snack bar area where you can get hot dogs, corn dogs, drinks, and other snack foods.
If you ever wanted to feed a camel by hand or have a Buffalo trot along with your bus, this is the place to be. It is a really fun experience well worth the price of admission.
This is a small park but was easy enough to find. The workers were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the animals. Our tour was a lot of fun, especially with Humphrey the camel and the other named animals. Our tour guide was very informed and it was nice taking the bus! The little zoo area was cute as well :3 Not a day trip, only took us 2 hours to go through everything but wonderful side event!
I saw a billboard for this Animal Park so My husband and I took our granddaughter. It is a small park but instead of looking at animals behind glass you are right there with them. Most animal parks have signs up " please don't feed the animals" . This park wants you to and has feed and peanuts for sale for that purpose. It was a great day and we all had fun. Will go back again
Stopped here on the way to the Beach from Ohio; For $12 for adults this is a great little place; The safari was great; You actually got to pet and feed camels, ostrich, water buffalo, etc. If you are expecting a big zoo this is not; It is a fun attraction for both adults and children; You really get to be close up with their animals.
It doesn't matter where you live or where you have visited, you will love this park. We visit 3 times a year and never get tired of it!!!
We took our group homes to Fort Chiswell Animal Park today. We really thought this was something really big with alot of animals. They did give us a great guide tour on the safari bus and we did get to see and meet some of the animals, but I guess we were just lead to believe there were alot more than they really were. The guide was very knowledgeable and caring. Our clients are mentally handicap and they were helpful with the clients. Don't think we would go back. Not worth our money!
With around 2-3 hours to while before heading further on our road trip, we looked at some options for fun activities with kids. The hotel front desk had some flyers that guests could look at. Fort Chiswell Animal Park was the only activity that was kid friendly and could be done quickly. We were in for a quite a surprise. Not only is this place affordable and quick, it makes for a memorable experience. The animals appear well cared for. When you see babies born on premises through natural methods, you know its a place that's as animal friendly as it could get. The petting zoo is just perfect if you're waiting for the safari bus. The tour guide was awesome and was very knowledgeable. We visited on a Monday and we were the only ones on the bus. So our experience was like that of a private tour. It was fun interacting with the animals and learning about them and how they joined the park. Cody the bison and Humphrey the camel are awesome. Caroline the water buffalo is adorable. Head to the instructions from the your guide. They are useful and to the point. Outstanding experience. Would do it again if I were in the area.
Absolute must see if you're in the area! Great for kids and grown ups alike! Staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable, had a great hour tour. When the say the animals are up close they mean it! From friendly camels to bison and ostriches that will eat out of your hand, they have it all. Highly recommend!
My husband and I agree , It was well worth the $ spent plus we bought 2 bags of feed . We acted just like the kids on the Safari Bus . Puff came up and was my husbands best friend , while he had food , We will bring our grandkids back!! Love ,Love Love It !!!
This hidden gem is a really fun family place. Lots of animals. Knowledgeable staff. Clean and well kept. Animals seem well cared for and loved. Especially their rescued Camel "Puff". We had a great time.
