The Wayside theatre was properly named, becuase it was tossed to the wayside. WIth its excellent decor and marvelous plays, the wayside was a home for many budding professionals and help build many careers. But, the economy took it's toll as tourism slowed down in the Shenandoah Valley and it cost more to fill up the tank to drive a few extra miles from metro Winchester. I wish I could find a way to make this place work again.

According to reports the Wayside Theatre in Middletown, Virginia is now closed. I am truly sorry this happened.

Made plans to travel to the Shenandoah Valley and specifically to the Wayside Theater ( where we enjoyed a great at last year) to celebrate spouse's birthday. Purchased tickets on credit card by phone. Received a call from a board member that the theater is officially closed and bankrupt. What a bummer!

It is a must see show of Boeing, Boeing. 2 Hours went by so fast. It was one of the best shows ever. If you had a bad day or even a week, this will make you forget about all of it as it kept you laughing thru out the show. It is a must see!!

The charming Wayside Theater in Middletown, VA can't be beat! The theater is small, but every seat is very comfortable. It is truly a worhwhile experience. The prices are incredibly reasonable for such professional performances. We've been going for over 7 years now and have supported Wayside Theater through some really tough times. They deserve to STAY OPEN and continue their outstanding work. Check out the Web site and read all about their history; it is truly touching.

We saw Church Ladies Basement which was running in June - great production. Play house is small and all seats are great! Check out the latest production and support this theater.

Top choice for little theater.Performers are excellent; they pour their hearts into each performance.Great entertainment at very reasonable price.Although we live closer to DC theaters than to Middletown VA; we often choose Wayside over DC venues. We drive 50 miles to see a show 4 times a year. Cannot beat the value and performance for the price. Cozy and welcoming. Every show feels like we are with family and friends in theater

My wife and I attended the Putman County Spelling Bee. What a wonderful show. The cast was fantastic with a few audience members participating as well. A very clever comedy and musical. If you have never seen live theatre this is a great place to see your first show. You will be back for sure. Cast and crew are top notch, a wonderful experience for all.

We were in the audience for the first performance of the "Putnam County Spelling Bee" at Wayside, and the musical is absolutely delightful - and hilarious. My sister signed me up (unbeknown to me!) to be one of the audience participants. It was a hoot being part of the fun, and the cast members were excellent at helping the 4 audience folks know what to do when on the stage. The actors fulfill their roles expertly, the singing is fantastic, and the story cute and refreshing. I would not, however, take anyone younger than about 10 or 12 to this show because there is some (not much) swearing, and a lot of double entendre sexual references, which younger children most likely wouldn't understand. But the performance is hilarious and definitely worth seeing. Also, while you're there (and even if you're not!), be part of their $20 campaign to keep the theater alive. With ticket prices a fraction of what they are other places, and the high caliber of the performances, it will be a donation (tax deductible) well worth it. The Wayside Theater productions are a gem for the Shenandoah Valley, and hopefully they will continue their qualilty theater for years and years go come. Thank you to everyone there who made our "girls day" even more special!!

Going to a play at Wayside Theatre is a great way to spend the evening. They have many types of plays and musicals throughout the year. The acting is excellent! My favorite is Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming.

This was my first experience at the "Wayside Theater", and I absolutely LOVED everything about it. From the intimate, small theater, to the welcoming staff and volunteers, and especially to this first-rate production - it was a fantastic afternoon. When I talked with the lady over the phone about the Christmas production of "Glory Bea" she said it would be perfectly suitable for me to bring my 6 and 7 year old grandson and granddaughter. She was SO right!! They loved the show as much as I did, and it was a positive and wonderful theater experience for them. The play itself, set in the Shenandoah Valley during the depression, is really well done. And the musicians and actors were fabulous. Strong singing voices, and a great locally relevant play - a super combination. I would go watch this again tomorrow, and would encourage anyone to make plans now to attend (assuming tickets are still available). Hopefully the theater will offer a 2013 Christmas feature, because I'll be the first in line to purchase tickets. Thank you to everyone at Wayside Theater for making our day there extra-special and memorable.

For our 27th anniversary we returned the local theater where we had seen "Private Lives" during a brief, but lovely honeymoon. We should not have waited so long! This charming little theater put on a delightful "Tuna Does Vegas," which had us laughing 'till it hurt. I had not imagined a play with this name could be such a charmer. Live theater at an affordable price is something we all should treasure and support.

Really nice production of the famous Noel Coward play. Well done by equity and non equity actors. Small but very comfortable and nice small theatre. Lovely Irish pub down the road. More local people need to support their efforts!

A small, cozy theater with a great variety of programs, plays, etc. A nice night out.
