natural chimneys

We were in the area and decided to check out the chimneys. So glad we stopped. It was a cold day and there was no one else there. A couple other visitors stopped while we were there but we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The walked in the caves, hiked the trail up to see above the chimneys, played on the playground and ran around. Awesome place to see!

This is well worth the stop and see if you are in the area but I'm not sure if this is something I would drive a long way to.

We have brought family here when we vacation in the area in September. The chimneys are located at the back of a State Park/ campground. It is always a quiet place during our visit. The chimneys are an amazing ecological event. It is also a very lovely ride to get there.

We stopped by here on our trip to Virginia and enjoyed the area. The chimneys are worth a look and the park is quite nice - there are tables for picnics and a large grassy area for playing games and letting the children run. There is a campground nearby if you are interested in that.

The ride to get to this place was a treat of it's own. The scenary was beautiful and the little antique shops along the way were worth browsing. The chimney rocks themselves were picturesque. There is a small campground and the restrooms were impressively clean to be of some age.

We really enjoyed our little visit to the natural chimneys. We're sorry we missed the nation's largest jousting matches. We explore the the cave that when a little way into the mountain. We found some mill wheels, or at least think they're mill wheels, stacked up next to a tree. I thought there was an interesting juxtaposition of a story story fireplace that probably was the remains of a house that used to be there.

No admission fees, plenty of camping on-site. less than an hour from Staunton and Waynesboro, a pleasant stop for a quick family picnic or relaxing break from the road.The chimneys have a lot of well-made and informative signs. You can even enter one of the caves to get a closer look. A must-see if passing through this area.

Well kept grounds and very nice scenery, excellent for a brief visit if you're in the area. We saw it on the way from one town to another when we didn't have a lot of time. It was well worth the stop.If you're expecting Zion or Grand Canyon scale rock formations you'll be a little disappointed, but it's an interesting and unusual thing to see, and a nice place to get out a walk a bit!

We have stayed here a number of times over the past several years and have never been disappointed. The sites are really nice and most are shaded except in the very center of the park. The bathrooms are older but clean and well maintained. There are really no "full hookups"...just water and power. This camp seems to attract a really nice group of folks and everyone is there to have fun. My only complaint is that the dump station gets really busy on Sunday morning and I wish they would open a second. Also there were floods in past years that damaged some of the trails that surround the camp. If they could fix those two issues it would be a five star place.

We've visited the Natural Chimneys several times over the years when visiting friends in the Shenandoah Valley. A very nice, quiet, peaceful place with beautiful scenery. Well worth the time to visit. I understand back in the 1950s the park hosted the country music greats of the day including Hank Williams.

The park features some impressive rock formations that give the park it's name. there's a mixture of meadow and groves of trees bounded by a river. Camping is available. We went there to attend the Red Wing Roots Music Festival. What a great venue.

Natural Chimneys is different if you enjoy rock displays. Its in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. The Valley is beautiful to visit especially in the Spring when the trees and flowers are at their finest!Take an hour to stroll by the chimneys and read the historical makers . Don't forget the camera as you will want to take pictures!

Natural Chimneys Regional Park & Camp Ground is a must see if you are a rock collector. It's located in the Shenandoah Valley area in Virginia. The drive is 'off the beating path' - don't get discouraged, keep going! We visited in June 2012. The 'Chimneys' are very cool. There are historical markers with information about them. If you are a camper - there are campgrounds and a nice looking pool. If you just wanted to go to the park - lots of spots to picnic with picnic tables and trees w/shade. The Saturday we went had a local jousting tournament to watch. Don't forget to take your camera. This is probably a very busy camping area in the summer with many sites with water & electricity.Also large swimming pool for campers to enjoy. park has the North River has 1 boundary--scenic and I'm sue kids love to wade in it in warmer weather. Lots of room to walk around the grounds,and the Natural stone chimneys are interesting and impressive. We had a nice Fall afternoon to walk around the entire site and enjoyed several quiet hours there.

We had a great time at Natural Chimneys. There were wagon rides, hiking, and even a bluegrass concert! The park and pool were very clean and the trails have very interesting wilflowers. We will be back!
