I went to the restaurant with my fiance and a friend. The server was really nice, recommending some dishes and helping us to pick the perfect beer for each one. Great food and service

My fiancé and our friend were very excited to visit the Bier Garden because of the great reviews online. We were looking forward to finding a great beer haus similar to the one in our hometown. Sadly, this restaurant did not meet our needs at all. The waitress, Tiffany, was simply mean. She was more than rude, and acted as though it was an inconvenience to serve us. She was not happy until we asked for the check 10 minutes into our stay. None of us had ever experienced service so horrendous. She acted as though it was an inconvenience to tell us which soft drinks were available, and she was simply mean! There really is no other way to put it. She didn't even deserve the tip we left. The atmosphere was not enjoyable. We walked in and the restaurant felt sad. I really hope management can help Tiffany through whatever terrible mood she was in, because it definitely reflected in her serving. She stopped by our table after a few minutes of seating us and asked us what food we would like to order, and our friend still had not decided and she said "Kay I'll just come back later." Her tone was so mean and unprofessional, we decided we would rather eat and drink at a different restaurant. It was a terrible experience and I am sad to say we will not be returning. Taphouse is a much better restaurant if anyone is looking for an enjoyable dining experience.

I do not know why this is just listed as an attraction. Everyone there was enjoying the food and the beer. I ordered all four of the wurst on the menu. They were all cooked to perfection. Everyone in our party enjoyed everything we ordered. Be sure to get the lentil soup on a cold night. It will warm you up.

My husband and I went there to have a good beer and watch the World Series. I am not well versed in beers, a wine drinker myself, and the bartender made 2 choices for me based on asking me questions and they were awesome. Over 400 beers there and he knew the ends and outs on all of them. It was amazing. He even made a couple selections for my husband. We didn't make it in time for food, the kitchen had just closed, so no review on that. But small quaint and comfortable bar setting. We all visited with everyone. We found this place by walking downtown Portsmouth and getting to know our new area*recent transplants* . Glad we did. This little hideaway is great.

Amazing atmosphere (dinning room, patio, and bar), food (authentic Bavarian cuisine), and most importantly, beer list (100s to choose from).
