Although I like Patsy Cline, I wouldn't say I am a huge fan, and this little house in Winchester didn't seem like a fantastic spot to visit. But, we decided one lazy day to make a quick stop. I am so glad we did. It is a step back into a time and a look at what it was like for a young woman of modest means to sit out on the road for fame. The tour guides were pleasant and knowledgeable and the house feels like you could see a young Patsy coming down the stairs to sit out of the front porch. I would encourage you to take a stop for an hour or so at this little piece of history.
Such a warm quaint place. It is filled with lovely memories. GO visit. The volunteers there are well informed and share nice facts about Patsy's life.
The docents at this small home are very knowledgeable & good at their job. Very interesting historical, authentic home of one of Winchester's famous residents.
If you are a Country/Rock fan, and secondly as fan of Patsy Cline, you need to visit this site. After visiting this house you would get the feeling that Patsy had little while growing up, but was always proud of her roots. To this day, when you think of Winchester, you think first of Patsy Cline.
This small house in old town Winchester is a wonderful tribe to Patsy Cline and her family - just like it was when she lived there!
Although the house does not open on Monday's, we met the director who showed us around, pity other places are not so accomodating.
tour of the interior was conducted by a member of Patsy's family. Also we went to her gravesite - very nice peaceful place.
The house is very non-descript. It's a small, simple, white house. It has a sign out front that marks it as an historical site or else it would be easy to miss. There isn't much to the house, but if the walls could talk they would have a great deal to say. Fortunately the volunteers share some of the history of the house and some of the history of Ms. Cline. The visit to the house gave some perspective to the country music legend who died too soon. You can only take photos of the outside, but there are postcards with images of the inside.
Definitely recommend a visit if you are a Patsy Cline fan or enjoy country music. The 2 tour guides were great and very knowledgeable of the history of the house and the short life of Patsy Cline. Small house loaded with lots of history. The tour lasted about an hour but they kept your attention the entire time.
Whether you're a Patsy Cline fan or not, it worth the visit....She's an Icon......The docents were very knowledgeable and I learned a lot. The home is humble but it's nice...and they sell memorabilia and Souvenirs (B&W 8x10 head shots. CD's of her music)
Well, I wasn't going to review this attraction, but I read most of the others before mine, and I figured it was about time this thing "To Do" was reviewed by someone other than a Patsy fan. My wife is going to kill me for this review, but I will take the heat, for you, the reader! The tour is pretty good. Honestly, I have to say, it can't be too bad, because my 6 & 9 year old daughters endured the entire thing and behaved cherubly. There is no doubt that every person on the tour (except me) and leading the tour was a Patsy fan. This quaint home has been meticulously preserved to deliver a sense of exactly how Patsy lived on Kent Street in Winchester, VA before her big appearance on an Arthur Godfrey talent show (now I sound like a Patsy fan!). Apparently, as the docent explained, a few family members of Patsy's still live nearby and have contributed to making sure items (such as the exact placement of a picture of her grand father) are in their precise location throughout the home. I must admit, I was engaged throughout the tour. I would not say this was anywhere as good a tour as some of the historical tours I have been on in the likes of Gettysburg, etc., but it is informative and I would also contend it delivers a true sense of the young life of Patsy Cline in this "miner's town". I would make this a stop, if you are a Patsy enthusiast and looking for something to do with an hour of your day.
The tour through the house is very informational and interesting. They have a few authentic items in the house, but a lot is donated replicas. The house still has that old wood 1950s smell which really helps create the atmosphere. Every little piece has a story that the guide person is welcome to share and is helpful with any questions. If you enjoy Patsy Cline at all then you'll enjoy walking through this piece of history. There is no available access for wheelchairs or people that have trouble with stairs but they do have a book you can look at while the tour continues upstairs.
if you're a Patsy fan, as we are, this is a must. if you're not a Patsy fan if eel sorry for you.the house which is a converted log cabin from the 18th century, has been meticulously restored to the 50's when Patsy lived there with her mother and younger brother and sister. the docent, whose aunt was an early booking agent for Patsy, provided lots of personal details. this is a very intimate experience.
The ladies who gave us the tour were very well informed and mad this talented singers childhood and early career come to life. Patsy endured a lot of hardships and so did her mother to get her in the country music elite. Don't miss this place.
A small house where Patsy lived in her teens and early 20s. A must see if you are a Patsy fan and are in the area. A little house but the tour guides are so informed and dedicated that you get a 45 minute enjoyable tour.
