This is a place that you cannot pass up . If you've never been, it's hard to describe the mixture of businesses that show up for First Monday. It is a flea market, a bit of magic, unique stores, quirky bed and breakfasts and the most fun you can have on any weekend. There are staged gun fights, real Texas bands, a movie theatre that also has bingo. A shop that makes "Teddy Bears" called Mountain Critters. You've got to go . If you are shopper, you will be in Nirvana!
I can't recommend this place more. Kim, the owner, has the biggest selection of pet accessories and clothes that I have ever seen. I have a little 4 lb. long coat chihuahua and she even had tiny clothes for him. Kim is a big animal lover and it certainly shows in her shop. Definitely recommend people stopping by.
I have been going to Canton Texas for 14 years and found the Mountain 13 years ago. I have never left since and just love it. There are over 800 rooms from Bed and Baths, live entertainment and late night shopping.
We stayed on the mountain and loved it. It is so quaint. We were there in November and it was decorated for Christmas. SO PRETTY. I only wish there were more shops on the mountain. It was my favorite place in Canton, although there were a lot more shops in the main area. I am going back this November and staying on the mountain.
Canton Trade Days are great and huge and exhausting but don't miss the nearby retreat called The Mountain. Reason 1: While Canton (Trade Days and the town) seem to shut down at 5pm, The Mountain stores and restuarants stay open until 11pmReason 2: The people are amazing. Like a small community that welcome all newcomers.Reason 3: The Pie Shop; seriously the best pies I've had in many years (Chess was my favorite but Coconut Cream, Apple & German Chocolate were very good).Reason 4: The Bed & Bath/Breakfasts. (particularly the Palm Cabanas for us) Now check closely whether it says Bed & Breakfast or Bed & Bath. Really good food at the restuarants (Fire Side is really good).Reason 5: The shops. Lots of great shops with everything from antiques to custom jewelery and clothes. And they are open late!Reason 6: The trolly that will take you from the base of the Mountain to Trade Days and the Civic Center every 20 minutes for only tips.Reason 7: Did I mention Palm Cabanas, the Pie Shop & Fire Side Grill?
It's little western town on a hill near the Canton Trade Days. Very cute little shops, bed and breakfasts, restaurants, a winery, a Wild West show, blacksmith. It's like going back in time. Everyone was so nice. You got to know everyone by name. Like staying with family. I personally found the Canton Trade Days overwhelming. Next trip I'd be very content to just get away and spend my weekend on the mountain. No TV, just a quiet, relaxing trip back in time. Many cute finds at the various shops, a little spa type time, sitting on the porch of the B&B with friends. It would be grand. Several restaurants, of particular note were the burger bistro and the aloha grill. They also had live musicians Saturday and a street dance. The lady at Magic Mirror even loaned us her golf cart to take our shopping finds down to the car! Oh no cars on the mountain, just golf caters. There is a bus to take you to the trade days, and the driver was a delight. And one more thing, it's a dry county. Somehow you can buy wine at the winery, but bring your own adult beverages. Can't run to the store to buy them!
