My triathlon club did a Sunday bike ride to the winery. I honestly didn't realize we had one so close to the Frisco/The Colony/Plano area and I was excited to check it out! We rode our bikes from Frisco, to the winery. Luckily some of the riders had left their cars there, so we could drive back after the wine tasting. The inside seating wasn't extremely large, but large enough for our party of 15 and another party of 6. Once seated the people who own the vineyards came to the table to explain how and where the wines were made and where the grapes were grown (if not on location). We ordered 4 cheese, meat and dips plates for our 2 tables. Each plate was $10 which I think was a fair amount considering the quality of the items on the plates. For $5 we tasted 9 wines, which I thought was very generous. I believe everyone in our group ended up buying a bottle or two of wine and the $5 wine tasting fee was waived. Overall it was a great experience and I will certainly go back! If you are into wine and live in the DFW area you should go check this local gem out!
Don't you just love Texas wineries? After all, in California you would never get the chance to talk with the owners of a winery or their winemaker. That is just the opposite in Texas. Linda & Clark Hornbaker and their son Chris elevate the tasting experience to new levels. Their knowledge of viticulture and enology lets you know they really know how to grow great grapes and how to bottle amazing wines. Within minutes you feel like you are visiting with old friends. Their tasting room looks and feels like one that you would see in Sonoma. Beautiful yet comfortable as home. And their wines....wow! I found six (6) different wines that were beyond amazing. Their Garden Red is a magnificent semi sweet red wine with hints of vanilla, berries, coffee, and marshmallows. The Blanc Du Bois Dry has a crisp citrus flavor that is perfect for a hot Texas day. The Blanc Du Bois Semi Sweet has hints of tropical mangos and pineapple without being too sweet or tasting like candy, and is another great choice for a hot Texas day. The La Reina 2009 Dry is a must taste Tempranillo. It is not a slap you in the face robust tempranillo, but a savorful wine that brings flavors of chocolate and vanilla to the palate. And for after dinner, the 2008 Madiera and 1987 Vintage Texas Port are sure to bring visions of happiness to all. You can't leave Eden Hill without taking quite a few bottles home for yourself and friends.
Linda and Clark, owners of Eden Hill are pure delight. They will give you any, and all, information on their wine making process. They allow you to walk amongst their vineyard and gardens. They also have a perfect spot for private parties including weddings. You can not beat the atmosphere, friendship and great food an wine that are offered at Eden Hill.
