hearne railroad museum depot

A restored train depot containing a large collection of railroad items from the steam engine era. The collection is constantly growing and the building is a well preserved example of an original train depot.

This old depot has been restored and is in great condition. It contains a lot of artifacts and memorabilia. There are seats inside dating from prior to WWII. Also inside are an old adding machine, cash register, and other things from the thirties. There is both telephone and telegraphic equipment. All of the items are clearly marked with placards which explain what the particular item was used for. On the walls of the museum are photographs of the downtown area of Hearne in years past as well as the surrounding area. There is also a display of cotton and an explanation of how important it was for the area. This museum has quite a few displays of old equipment and is quite educational. For those who have an interest in railroad history, this is a great place to relive it.
