We camped here for three nights in a travel trailer. The campground is quite small, which make the sites somewhat small and close together, however you don't feel like you are on top of your neighbor. Our site had a nice corner bench built around the fire pit... a nice ammenity to the site. The bath house is older and very clean with easy access. Convenient acess to town if you need supplies.

Great place to get back to nature. Day facilities available. Kids enjoy nature at its best and the creek provides a great cool down

safe place to let the kids play while taking you early morning or afternoon walk or jog. It is clean and everything was in great shape.

Stayed 2 nights in this park. To begin with the sites are small, flat and somewhat level, close together but with all the vegetation you get a fair amount of privacy. Restroom and shower is kind of old and vary hot but clean and vary usable. Not much to do here a few woodsy trails, with lots of insects, typical of east Tx. with no attractions except the plants and animals and there are plenty of animals. Park is just blocks away from the highway and town with grocery, gas, restaurants and pretty much everything you might need. The real attraction is the creek, there are several put in spots for floating down and I guess it is pretty popular just not during a flood. We paddled up to the hwy 96 bridge after weeks of heavy rain and floods, the beaches we under water and it is quite a workout but vary pretty, well worth the trip. Would return and do more paddling. Expect the park to be heavily patrolled by the rangers, I guess it’s proximity to the town necessitates this to discourage unregistered visitors, it is the first state park we have visited that we were stopped and ask for our receipt (which was plainly attached to our windshield, leads one to believe there must be some counterfeiters in the area that necessitate this, however it is a minor inconvenience and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

Nice quite place to enjoy nature. Good day trip, camping facilities, old fashioned swimming hole, picnicking, even primitive camping. Has it all at reasonable price.

Very nice park that is very close to Houston. Great hiking trails, fishing down at the river, plenty of trees at the camping sites. We did the electricity/water sites but I think the more rustic sites would have been perfect for us. A little more privacy, yet not too far from your car like at other state parks.Do watch out for snakes as we met one on the hiking trail, but it took off faster then we could. Also, be aware that there are some train tracks not too far away. The train can be very loud at night so if you are a light sleeper, bring some ear plugs.

Campground was the nicest. Sites are generous, private, shady, and all have elec, water, table, fire ring and benches. Picnic area is similar. Several pretty walking trails down to the creek which has a swimming hole. Too cold for us to try. One negative is the bathhouse, which is too small for number of campers. It is only cleaned once a day, and gets bad by nightfall. Best to shower mid-day. Even so, we enjoyed this place.

Lots of trails to explore. Lots of nature to check out. Be mindful of snakes and bring mosquito repellant.

clean park but not alot to do, swimming area was far but water was low. lightening bugs were nice surprise. decent trails, think its mainly a paddling park, not so much for younger kids.

You will be greeted by very friendly rangers and they will help advise you the right trails for you. There's a nice swimming area, but you have to walk a mile to get there. However, the trail is easy to walk, and it's worth the hike. If you like to canoe, there's lot of great areas here and a good place to put your canoe in. There's a cabin here that's nice and the RV area is nice as well. There's also some nice primitive camping here. The location is great. If you need to run to Walmart or go eat somewhere, Lumberton has everything you need!

Canoe and camping are great here. Car side camping is easy here so great for families with little kids. Office staff is amazing and so helpful. Call up a canoes place to pick you up and get you in river. The best place for newbies to get in and start paddling. The camp is quiet and people are friendly. I have never felt safer in a park. I love the river through here and tell everyone to come out here.

Camping spots are to close together, swimming is to far to walk. Very crowded spaces, would rather not stay there.

Bigfoot3910

Very well designed exhibit area indoors as well as several options for walking trails. Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of the area in general. I have lived in the area for 50+ years and found plenty of new information.

We opted for the cabin since we were flying to Texas and didn't have room for tent and all normal camping gear. Nearly perfect - clean, electric stove, microwave, coffee maker, full size refrigerator, dining table and chairs, sofas, fireplace, bathroom with shower, AC/heat (preset by staff, so contact them right away during office hours if you need it changed as we did when the temperature dropped from 80's to 40's) As advised when reserving, you need to bring ALL bedding/towels and cooking equipment. There was toilet paper in the bathroom. We enjoyed meals on the screened porch. However, there is no furniture there - we moved chairs and a small side table out from inside and then returned them before it rained. If you have room, you might want to bring your own camping chairs. Outdoors there is a picnic table, a fire ring and a grill. The cabin is private (separate from the campground) with view of the river nearby, The cabin is on ridge above the river. It is a short drive/walk to the canoe launch to reach the river. The swimming beach is a mile hike through the woods from the canoe launch/shelter area. While the park is just outside of Lumberton, we found it quieter than many rural parks which often are located near highways. Since we needed to buy food, the closeness to city was convenient. We hiked several nice well maintained trails through different habitats. We saw only a couple of other people (mid week in early April). We had hoped to canoe but couldn't seem to find an outfitter responding/willing to supply just one canoe mid-week this early in season. Instead we hiked trails near the Big Thicket National Preserve Visitor Center north of Kountze - quiet and gorgeous!!The campsite reviews appear to be for the drive in campsites. We saw the walk-in campground where sites have more privacy and not too long of a walk. Looked like a great alternative for those with tents.
