We loved the Palmer Course at La Cantera. This is a beautiful course that is well maintained. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is a true mountain course with big elevation changes. There are a quite a few blind tee shots but also a lot of places to enjoy gorgeous views. The greens are fast and true. The carts have GPS on them. There are 5 tees so you can choose your best yardage making it a good course for players of all levels.

This was my third visit to S.A. and I continue to try different golf courses but always end up playing the Palmer course at LaCantera the most. It isn't the cheapest by any means but you get a quality course that will test ANY level of player. We play one up from the tips and it is fair but challenging especially a couple of the killer par 3s. Excellent staff! I really enjoy golf courses that aren't surrounded by houses and this is a course you can enjoy w/out being in a development. A+

For the serious golfer, this is a tough and fun course. It takes at least two times to get used to the landscape. I like the up and down of the course. Very challenging.

We played on a day when the wind was blowing and the temp was very cold. The course was in excellent shape.

Beautiful Arnie Palmer course. Top notch golf. Greens and fairways were fantastic. If you are in San Antonio you have to play. Scenic w/wild life abound.

Yesterday, November 19, 2014, I played on the best greens in San Antonio. My guy Mike told me they had just double cut the greens and that they would be fast. I asked how fast and Mike estimated a 10. I am here to report that you do not want to get above the hole and downgrain on any of the holes at Palmer right now. Take number 16 - yes, you take it; I don't want it. On the green in regulation (par 5) about 6 ft from the pin. Good birdie opportunity, right. Uh uh. After gently nudging the ball and watching it run off the green about 10 feet into the rough, I was greatly relieved to make bogey. Have fun while it lasts.

A challenging course for the average player. Terrific views of surrounding area and all the way to downtown San Antonio. Lots of elevation change including some "blind" tee shots. Watch for "critters" in the rough---a ball just is not worth an unexpected encounter with a native snake!!

My foursome played this course in early October and the weather was spectacular. The views from this course are also spectacular. This is a high-end course with high-end amenities and a high-end price. I believe at one time it was a Senior PGA tournament site but the hilliness was not particularly attractive for senior golfers. We played this course on a Saturday morning but despite the weekend crowd the flow of play was good. The carts have their own GPS built in which was necessary for first time players. One par 3 has a 75 to 100 foot drop from the tee box to the green. Lots of wildlife to see. Greens and fairways are in beautiful condition.

Wonderful property/course with great views. It just costs more than it should w/all the great golf courses in town.

La Catera has two courses, he Palmer Course and the Resort Course. Both are challenging with tee to green elevation changes. The layouts are good and course was in excellent condition, but you pay a price if you don't keep the ball in the fairway; 2nd cut is dep enough to swallow a ball. Staff is courteous and helpful.

Good value for money if you are a golf lover. Challenging golf course with amazing views. Highly recommended for golfers of all levels. Very professional staff too.

Played here in a scramble and had a lot of fun. The course is challenging but nice to play. The club house is very nice and the course is well kept

Not a great experience. If you play in the morning, eat before you go. If you are lucky enough to even find someone to take your order, food sucks. Staff has a kind of a 'stiff' attitude. I went a couple hours early to work on my swing since coming off the winter, i have not played much. I must have been asked 10 times what my name and tee time was, as if i was some intruder or something. The range is nice but actually had to wait to hit balls because it was full. They seem to only utilize half of the range area. There is a decent chipping area off to the side. The practice putting green is all the way by the first tee and literally has 3 holes on it. Had to wait to practice putting as well.As far as the course goes, it was ok. To many blind tee shots for my liking. The greens were pretty bad and some holes had frayed edges that were pretty rough. It is a nice area with scenic views. The golf carts are nice and have GPS display so you can see the group ahead of you on screen, as well as a built in range finder. Overall, it's just an ok course that is built on very desirable and scenic land.

Conditions of the greens were horrible. Looked like the pin positions had not been changed for a week, and as a result, bare ground and serious fraying at the holes. Staff was not too concerned about this.Supposed to be a premier course. Great layout and fairway conditions, but would not play this course again. Expensive golf for San Antonio.
