At the major junction in the park a great place to start on our first visit to this scenic national park. Very happy to see a post office located here as well being the park is pretty isolated from any towns.
The people at the visitors center was very helpful. The post office there is closed because they don't have a post master, but we could mail things from the visitor center.
This is sort of the centrally located center of the park. Very clean and well maintained. Bathrooms were very clean, water available and cool gift shop.
We like the National Park visitor centers and Panther Junction was no exception. An excellent overview of the park... and gas for the car.
The ranger was very helpful in his quidance on making the day trip into Mexico as to the logistics and various costs.
Stop by on your first day in Big Bend for a good intro to the site. You can decide on your activities after speaking to the friendly staff. Just bear in mind that this is an information centre and doesn't have any food/drink
We arrived at 8:00 pm so this was closed. We stopped here on the way out to see what they had. It was nice looking at the diorama after driving through the park. We bought some shirts and stamped out book and left.Nice facility and nice bathrooms. Helpful rangers.Big Bend is a great place to visit. We loved everything about our trip and highly recommend it. Thank you NPS for another great park!
The ranger on duty gave us an expectation for roads we had not done yet. We were able to fit some excellent experiences into our time allotment.
We enjoyed our stop here during our trip to Big Bend. As with all the National Parks, the Rangers and Volunteers are all very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the short 20 minute video, which during the low season plays when you request it and not on any specific schedule.
The guy at the desk gave us some great advice on what to see depending on the time available. There is also a nice gift shop here, a post office, bathrooms, an interpretive center, and a short walking trail.
There is a large 3D model of the park plus some interactive informational activities for the kids here. It is a well stocked book store plus the rangers are very helpful. There is a desert garden out front with the plants labeled. Be sure to visit here before seeing much of the park. You will learn a lot and it will help you appreciate the park more.
Ok. Watch the movie and ask the Rangers for advice, they are informative. Good gift shop. There is also a post office next door.
If you have young children, pick up one of the Junior Ranger books, fill it out with your child, and then come back to see Ranger Rob. He swore our son in as a Junior Ranger and did it with class, professionalism, and a great deal of humor. Thanks Ranger Rob for a life-long memory for our six year old!
Although this is a nice little information center, replete with wonderful NPS personnel, it seems small and underdeveloped for a major National Park. The Peter Coyote-narrated, 24-minute film is well done, and the collection of books for sale are also well done, but everything else begs for more attention.
a good place to get an overview and sense of the park. There is a large relief map you can use for a perspective on the area. Good selection of books, posters etc.
