This was a very cool town I will have to come back to see more of it. not a lot of night life but we were not looking for that. It is known for its water park but we did not go as it was early spring still. Lots of good places to eat.
Interesting old buildings and the lovely Prince Solms Park with its waterslide and picnic areas. Pleasant strolling area downtown.
we have been going to New Braunfels for a long time, and always find something to do. Golfing is great around there. Love to stay at the Comfort Suites. Lots of different restaurants, and it is kept very clean
Nice place to stay and lots to do in New Braunfels. We were there for a dance competition in San Marcos in March, so all water activities were closed.
Take an hour to wander through the shops around the twn square (well actually a round-about). It is what small town America used to be like. Grab a cup of coffee and buy something at a wonderful bakery.
I agree totally with Shadrach2015. We wanted to visit this town on our way to San Antonio. We were disappointed. There is nothing special in New Braunfels in the winter. I think it is more of a summer resort town with tubing on the river etc. We were directed by our CAA Tour Book to the Wingate by Wyndham. It was supposed to be located in a "quiet country setting, north of town". Not sure who wrote the description. The hotel seemed very new. But it was certainly not in the country. It was on a strip of highway that is totally developed. A Burger King and the Interstate were visible from our window. On our way to a restaurant we were intimated by 5 gravel trucks travelling together along the highway, changing lanes back and forth at 70 miles per hour, as if they were match box trucks. A local restaurant owner told us that he has seen several accidents outside his restaurant. Not the quite the German oasis we had expected. I suggest New Fredericksburg instead!
Wanted to visit this town on our way to San Antonino as it is right on Interstate 35. It is a quaint town but not outstanding. Town circle was well decorated for Christmas, but didn't offer much else. There are more interesting towns in this area of Hill Country to spend time visiting.
The town is supposed to be an oasis of a german town in the middle of Texas. It's not. I like the little town. Colourful, romantic and beautyful. Cheerful people and great antique shops. But it's not the german ville they promised. I was able to go to the german festival and it was amazing. That's what I expected to see everywhere. Still it's very recomendable for a quiet, fun time.
On the main street, I visited the hardware store to buy a bungee cord to help hold my luggage and souvenirs together for my return flight. I really liked the old-fashioned look of the store, but it had what I wanted, the cashier was friendly and helpful, and I came away with a good impression of New Braunfels.
Everything is within 10-15 min from my house. Hardly any problems (burglaries etc)...Only thing I wish was better was NBISD, but other than that, I love it here
What an amazing place! Small town ambiance yet modern. Loves to party, particularly celebrating it's German heritage. Wurstfest is a must! The top waterpark, Schlitterbahn, is here. Too much to do and see to list. C'mon down!
The city Parks/Rec hold this every year, they select a different group to highlight. This year was city employee's. They have 6 and try to have descendents play the part of the person. It was very interesting and well done. You park at a near by park, and take a hayride over to cemetery. Not for children for they would not be interested. It is about 1 to 1 1/2 mile walking around. Will be looking at doing it again next year. but you have to get tickets early, purchased mine in August and some tours were already sold out.
There is not any parking for the attractions downtown and if you do find a place to park, everything closes at midnight.
A feeling of days past meeting the now. The things those trees must have seen. The draw back, Watch for traffic when crossing.
A charming city square with tree lined streets, cafe's, unique shops, all with a historical relaxing feel. Not to be missed.
