We always enjoy going to Canyon Lake because of the quiet, and the beautiful view. we enjoy walking on the Dam. and even going to the water's edge.
Being February, we were not going boating but it was in fact a great place to relax and have a picnic. Also if you approach the lake from the South, you can walk across the top of the dam to get a wonderful view of both the lake and the river below.
Only got a small tasted of this Texas gem but it is beautiful. We made a stop to get a geocache and climbed down part of the hill on the east side of the lake near a little cove. It was gorgeous. Great place for hiking.
Its huge and good bass and crappy fishing. No glass bottles on the lake. Constant level lake and a great bar on the waterfront. Fun in the sun
We decided to spend Thanksgiving at Jellystone Park at Canyon Lake, Texas. We wanted to do something different and interesting to our 6 grandkids. They loved it. We had two lodge rooms next to each other with swings, an indoor heated pool, a place for a campfire and tables right across the rooms. The weather was great cool and not windy. The best part was the park staff cooked all the turkeys and the guests took side dishes and desserts. Even though it was quite a crowd, everyone got served in 11 minutes! There was plenty to choose from and lots of desserts. Needless to say, adults and children alike had a great time. There is plenty to do a short distance from the park as well.
My wife & I were looking for some R&R at a resort overlooking Canyon Lake. The lake is still not full, but up much from record lows a couple of years ago during a severe drought. We could see two inlets on the lake from our balcony, as well as numerous deer every day. We also saw both ends, but did not tour, of the Canyon Lake Gorge, an impressive gorge opened in 2002 during a record flood when water went over the emergency spillway in the only time since the lake was built. We want to go back in warmer weather and take advantage of one of the tours to see the rock strata, dinosaur tracks and other fossils unearthed by the flood waters. We had cold, rainy weather most of the week, but still enjoyed the peace and tranquility.
A popular lake for the San Antonio crowd plus the Winter Texans. But Canyon Lake is becoming a canyon. It's down about 12' or so now and really needs more water. Thus the Guadalupe River normally busy with canoeing and tubing is pretty quiet now due to the low flow.
My friend and I came up to the Silver Leaf timeshare in Canyon Lake for a week as a military brat reunion would take place in New Braufels later in the week. The actual apartment was essentially okay, but the devil is in the details. Check in was fine. However, these were some of the problems.1. The shower head in the master bath is seated so high that you have to be at least six feet tall to keep from drowning and adjustment is hard to do.2. No disposal. 3. Coin operated laundry up in check in/game area with limited and expensive machines - this for some 80 units with six condos in each. 4. Kitchen knives the very worst I have ever found in a time share. 5. Wii-Fii available only in the check in area. 6. Actually still using metal keys. 7. water temperature in the hot water heater apparently set to low - I was able to shower with the water full on hot and not scald myself. 8. Apparently inventory not maintained. Six of everything for silver ware, china, and glassware except for wine glasses, of which there were only three. 9. Couch in living room was uncomfortable, even for a time share.
If you go to the side of the dam where there is plenty of water, you can enjoy a great time with your family. The other side isn't as good due to the drought we are presently going through. However, there are still spots to enjoy.
This is a prime recreation area in the beautiful TX Hill Country. Lots of water sports abound and nice marinas. The water is blue and gorgeous. We went, we saw and ended up purchasing land here because we fell in love with the gorgeous vista surrounding the lake. Early Fall is a nice time to visit because the crowds have left during the week and the water is still summer like.
This is the most beautiful lake and the waters are blue as the sky due to the quarry its built from.. lovely. My folks live out this way.
Canyon lake is a premier ski and boating lake. There is also some good fishing spots, although I don't fish any longer, I do have friends that say it can be great. Canyon Lake marina has boat, barge, and jet ski rentals available. There are many bed & breakfast and condos for rent on the lake, so you can sleep close to where you play.
We loved this crystal clear lake! Swimming and boating were so much fun. Weekends are very busy on the lake so go during the week if possible
We were invited by friends to stay at their 'lake view' house for a weekend get-together. One day we went boating on the lake. It's big! Stopped in Party Cove to enjoy a few cool ones and float around. It was a Friday and not to crowded. Saturdays during the summer are much more crowded. Even though it was July, the water was surprisingly cool at first. Had a wonderful time. Throughout the rest of the weekend we were able to enjoy the view from our friends lanai. Beautiful blue waster and gorgeous sunsets. Very peaceful. It's nice that no docks are allowed on the lake. And the whole area is very clean. Can't wait to return!
My husband and I found this Gem by accident. We were very surprised to see a fairly clean lake with clear water. The water was crystal clear and the sunset was magnificent. The next time we return to Canyon Lake we will be prepared to stay longer. Couple, single, or with family and friends this place is worth the visit.
