A great place to visit, especially on a rainy day! Kids didn't want to leave. The water part outdoors and trains were tops for our 4 and 7 yr old grandsons.
My five year old and two year old LOVE this treasure. The five year old has been going since he could walk and he still loves it. My favorite part is the painting area. The two year old loves the grocery store, the five year old likes all of it! Over the years they have changed things out and improved exhibits. They also have an amazing gift shop. Great selection of toys and books.
Great price and quiet. The kids loved it! A great indoor activity if there's inclement weather. My kids loved the grocery area and the nursery area. Definitely a great learning environment for kids. I would definitely come back again. The price wasn't outrageous.
Our kids love it. I do worry about kids picking up illnesses in places like this where tons of other kids are. It's impossible for surfaces to be cleaned consistently. Overall very interactive experience and kids love it.
We were in New Braunfels to visit family. After a 18 hour drive down from Milwaukee, WI our son desperately needed to get some place to RUN! It was pretty cold for TX this day so we were looking for something indoors. We were excited to find that the children's museum was just down the road from our hotel. When we got there I was amazed. We have a very good children's museum in Milwaukee but I always thought it had too many things for the kids to do. This museum is the perfect size and has some really great activity and learning areas. My son could have spent all day in the space area. Very clean and well maintained too. If you are in the area with kids it is worth the stop for sure!
Took my 3 year old, who loved it. It wasn't crowded and she could do everything, unlike some other museums that are really meant for older children. We were only there an hour, but easily could have stayed another. I would say it's best for 2-8 year olds. Admission price was very reasonable.
My granddaughter's preschool class visited the Children's Museum this fall. They had a wonderful time! The atmosphere, the openness, the colors, the art rooms, all of the themed areas were just so very engaging for these little ones. They were there all morning and were never idle, always involved in one part of the museum or the next. You could see their eyes light up as they were introduced into another exhibit. The outside activities are also stimulating and surprising. I highly recommend the McKenna Children's Museum. Families with all ages can really enjoy this together.
The water area was really fun with a waist high trough that had locks (small dams) and water ladders. Inside was a (plastic) grocery area with check out lines. Our grandsons loved the electric floor which was like a life-sized video game. We like to bring our grandsons to this museum every time they visit us.
We went along with our twin daughters and they enjoyed it like any thing. Almost every thing is eye catcher for them and they explored. We decided to go multiple times as we can engage the kids for whole day there.
The Museum is excellent, but think of it as more of a learning-playtime experience. It has lots of educational aspects, but is not curated the way an adult museum is. The space walk is done very well, there is a new "playhouse" (my kids called it a tree-fort, even though there is no tree) inside, and the art project of the day was as advertised on their website. The painting room was well-stocked, inviting, and offered creativity without forced projects. The staff mingled about, but were not in-your-face annoying the way some children's museums' staff. The outdoor play area was fun for all ages, although the water feature had some broken components. Well worth the money. My 4 and under kids were stimulated. There were several older kids (definitely under 10) that seemed to be enjoying it, but it caters to a younger audience.
We took my 3-year old son here for the first time and he had an absolute blast! We spent 2 and a half hours there and he probably would have stayed longer if we had let him. His favorite things were the grocery store area where kids get to push a little shopping cart around and load it up with play food. He also loved the outdoor play area which had a huge climbing tower, musical instrument area and water play area. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the awesome little train area which had a large wooden train track with trains set up. This was the first thing he was glued to. The museum is a little small but great to spend maybe 3 hours at. Also, the admission price was a great value.
My little ones, 1 & 3, enjoyed the experience. We spent a couple hours there, but definitely not an all day outing.
Children need time to explore, pretend, and enjoy imaginative play. I love this wonderful place with the grocery, the space ship, the dance center, water play, painting, and a favorite for the boys is the train station where they play with classic wooden trains and track they construct. My boys used to play with some of the trains and I relive those days when I come to visit and see busy hands and smiling faces in that area. There is also a very nice gift shop with great things for kids of all ages. Thanks for this indoor respite for Nana when the weather is over 90 degrees and I am entertaining my grands!
I took my niece on an outing here, she had so much fun we stayed for almost 5 hours! I like this place more than the Thinkery in Austin actually, I feel as though Mckenna is more geared 1+ babies and kids as where the Thinkery is only really cool for big kids. This place has great features like the little play house, bank, outside water table, hospital, play ambulance, outside instruments, spaceship dramatic place, and an art room! This is also a great space because although there may be a ton of families on any given day the building accommodates all and you never feel as though you're cramped or in someones way! The only negative would be some of the big kids present were taking over some of the areas and there were no parents to guide them somewhere else. That's more of a personal thing, but just look out. Still a really great place to hangout!
Great hands-on, educational, imaginative entertainment for kids. Grandkids loved going to the different indoor stations as well as the outside activities. Check out the NB visitors center or Groupon for discounts.
