I love spending time at Tepee Pools and Spa when I am in Thermopolis. You have many pool and slide options to choose from. Go and check it out for yourself, and enjoy!!
We visited in September 2014, as a family group with Miss 5 and Master 3, plus my 12 yr old daughter and us adults ... and there was something for everyone, we basically had the place to ourselves. After you walk in and get used to the sulphur smell, the water was great, very warm, the kids loved the indoor waterslide and could do it themselves. We tried Hotsy ... very very warm hot tub and we also swam in the outdoor large pool and played with the basketball ring. Unfortunately the outdoor slide wasnt open when we were there. The toilet facilities are old but adequate, there is a shop there that you can buy swimwear, toys & snacks & drinks. We then went for a walk up behind the complex to see the natural hot springs and the landscaping & boardwalks are great, such interesting geology to see - I took hundreds of photos
I went just to see if what I have heard is accurate.... The pools were dirty and the whole place dated and yucky. This is what happens when owners milk it instead of putting money into needed upgrades.
Teepee Pools are very nice and fair price. Great Dome and great people there. The lifeguards did a great job. This is a nice family recreation center I hope it will remain the same....
First of all, expect to spend $12 per person, which is a lot to pay for the activities available, though they can get away with this because people are willing to pay for some warm in the middle of Wyoming. The facilities are poorly maintained; chipping paint, falling pieces of the ceiling, jagged edges on the slides, and water running behind the lockers are par for this place. I don't think it has been updated in at least 30 years. The worst is the inattentiveness of the lifeguards. Several times the lifeguards were both outside or both inside, leaving an entire pool unattended. They also do not put a guard at the tops of the slides, which is especially scary with the outdoor slide. Watch your kids!If you just want to sit in warm water, try the state bathhouse located nearby. It's free and very clean and well kept up.
Hellie's isn't as spruced up as the Star Plunge, but it was more fun for us and the grandkids. We could use the waterguns, the smaller kids could use the big slides and it is cheaper. Don't go expecting a slicked up resort, but they have pools of varying heat and are not nearly as stiff and uptight about the kids having fun.
This is a mineral hot spring, the water is naturally cloudy and hot. It isn't your normal chlorinated city pool like you might find back home. We really liked it.We went swimming in this pool for four hours. It was enjoyable. We arrived to a lightly attended pool. Which is why we picked it which was strange since the pool across the street was packed. The Hot tub temp was 104 degrees the pool temps inside and outside were around 93 degrees. Whic was nice, since during this third week of june it had been cold in Yellowstone and Meeteetsee. There is a big slide inside and a larger slide outside. Only one was open at a time. We arrived around one pm, the life guards didn't show until around two or three on a Sunday. The slides and pool need maintenance, the operator said that he was afraid to repair them sinc ethe state is threatening to cancel his lease, to replace the pool with a cold one. I think that would be a bad idea.We had a lot of fun sliding down the slides, sitting in the hot tub and talking to the locals.I hope the owner can get an assured longer lease so he will feel comfortable fixing the place up some. It was really nice and fun.
We chose to go here on day 3 of our vacation and were very disappointed. We were a group of 4 (2 adults, a 3 yr old and a 12 yr old). The prices were outrageous, but we knew that before arriving. My biggest thing was that the water was so dirty inside (we didn't try the outside pool). There were floaties (looked like dead skin) ALL over the pool. If I would've went here before the Star Plunge I'm not sure we would've went to the Star Plunge, but luckily we did. The Star Plunge was very clean, in both the indoor and outdoor pools and we spent almost 2 1/2 hours there, where we spent barely over an hour here at Hellie's TePee Pools. The changing area was small and had to wait for a shower as there were not enough. If we ever came back to Thermopolis, we would go back to the Star Plunge in a second but would NOT goto Hellie's TePee Pools!!!
Although it is winter in WY in February, we went outside in our bathing-suit and enjoyed the hot springs basins. You are advised to leave the water after 20 minutes, and the difference in temperature made me a little dizzy. But afterwards I felt as if I had had 3 weeks of vacation.
My adult daughter and her husband live in Wyoming and they wanted us to visit Thermopolis on Labor Day and swim in the hot springs. Well, you don't actually swim in the hot springs, but you can go to the public park's small pool, or one of two privately owned facilities with many more amenities. While the TeePee is the oldest of the two, my daughter and her hubby and friends have been there multiple times and really liked it. It's been in the same family for about four generations. The good stuff first: If you didn't bring a suit, you can rent or buy one there. Same with all types of water toys and floats. There are indoor and outdoor pools of multiple sizes and temperatures, hot tubs with decent jets, an indoor and outdoor slide (the outdoor was pretty long), a dry sauna and steam room with water coming directly from the mineral hot springs. The steam room water flowed into the larger indoor pool via a "waterfall" under which you could kneel and let it beat on your shoulders (AHHH!).There was a chart when you enter with the temperatures of all the pools, and they were taken regularly (I think every half-hour) throughout the day. Pool and hot tub water ranged in temperature from about 87 degrees to 106 degrees. The hottest one was too warm for me to spend much time, but my hubby loved it!The water has minerals in it. Keep that in mind. It's a natural source of mineral water, so there also are small flecks of algae that grow in the springs. There is less in the outside pool than the inside pool. Don't look at the water and think "Ick!" That's the way it is supposed to be. And there isn't that much, just a "floater" every now and again. My daughter and I enjoyed the slides, which were used by tiny kids all the way to grown men. There were basketball goals set up inside and outside (and even in the kid's pool), with floats and balls around the pools for public use.My favorite was the cooler outdoor hot tub. I nearly fell asleep in there with the jets easing my back and shoulders! Good thing I didn't discover it until later in the day or I wouldn't have spent much time elsewhere. The steam room was too hot for me, and I'm not much for saunas. But they were available with nice wooden benches if that's your thing. There were plenty of lifeguards stationed inside and out, so if you have kids, there are other eyes helping you watch. There are men's and women's showers and dressing rooms. They were old and a little run down, but they were clean. The water pressure in the showers was really good, and there was plenty of hot (city) water. There were lockers for 50 cents to stash your stuff while you went in the pools. There are ramps and handrails into most of the pools, so young and old can easily get in and out. There also are ladders and steps. The bad stuff (and it wasn't really bad): When we first walked in I was a little disappointed, but I think it was the sulpher smell of the water that gave me that initial impression. The kids had warned me about the smell, but you get used to it pretty quickly.Again, this is an older facility, and while it could use some TLC and a fresh coat of paint, but everything was in working order, safe, and clean. The minerals from the springs build up on the sides and anywhere the water meets the air. That gives the pool areas a look of "unkempness" that is just part of the nature of mineral water. However, I can see how some people would think that unsightly. I thought it was pretty cool when I got close and really looked at it.All in all, I'm looking forward to going back again, especially this winter when the kids say the steam rises off of the pools and you can stay toasty warm under the waters.PS Of course natural mineral hot springs are supposed to have medicinal properties. This has been purported from the time of the Native American usage until today. These springs have attracted tourists to the "healing" waters for generations, so don't be surprised if you feel a little better when you leave, whether mentally or physically!
Great experience for what it is - relaxing and low-key. Compared to what I'm used to in a water park, the facility is small and old but the water is very very warm, there are couple of slides that kids really enjoy, balls to play with in the water, large pools and jacuzzis. I was pleased that we were able to keep our six-week-old in a stroller by the pools, so we could still both enjoy the water. However, while the place is great for kids, it is also wonderful for adults with no children. We were there on a weekday afternoon and had the indoors almost to ourselves. Would love to check out the place during the winter, must be a lot of fun especially in the outdoor hot tubs.
We travel to Thermop regularly every summer and always visit this pool multiple times - we always enjoy a great time and meet a lot of nice people. The staff is lovely and the facilities are great - it isn't a trip to Thernop without Hellie's!!!! :)
This is an older facility, but is well maintained and staffed with friendly people. A variety of indoor and outdoor pools are kept at varying temperatures. There are ample chairs for lounging. A few snacks and drinks, a long with pool toys and swimsuits, are available for purchase onsite, but for anything more substantial you'll have to leave. One fee lets you come and go all day. The locker room could use more spacious changing rooms. The steam room is really cool!
The pools are large, the spas are invigorating, the water is warm and relaxing, and the steam room and sauna are fabulous. The facility is a bit old and dated, but the staff is friendly and very helpful, and the lifeguards stay on top of what's going on and don't allow any "monkey business". The warm mineral water makes it all worthwhile.
Great place to relax and talk with the local patrons. It doesn't have the hustle, bustle of its primary competition.
