Awesome experience! Donald was a wonderful guide/storyteller... attentive, amusing, and knowledgeable. Horses were great on the rocky trail up and down the mountain. My group consisted of two adults and four teens/preteens and we all agreed that it was an excellent, would-love-to-do-it-again adventure. The scenery was beautiful and our ride was even more special because it snowed (big, powdery snowflakes) for most of the ride. A 'must-do' outing in New Mexico!
The 2 hour trail ride was wonderful! My 17 year old daughter had never ridden before but Donald put her at ease and she did great. Would recommend this experience to everyone...
Went for a 2 hour trail ride at this facility. It was awesome. Donald was a great guide. I'm not the most experienced rider, and before the ride, he went over several safety items that were never mentioned in my previous rides. These tips came in very handily because of the hills on the ride. The scenery on the ride was awesome, and his knowledge of the area was impeccable.
My wife and I had a wonderful 4 hour waterfall ride. Our horses, "Kip" and "Butch" were awesome, and are two of the most gentle and pleasant horses we have had the pleasure of riding. Donald's hospitality and storytelling made the ride even more enjoyable. The scenery was breathtaking. We hope to visit Cedar Crest Stables again.
Th.is is the fourth year I have been staying at Cedar Crest Stables and I love it. The Cottage is well furnished, very clean, and comfortable. It has a deck from which you can see the most beautiful dawns in the morning or stars at night. The trail rides are fun AND educational. Donald Romero makes a point of giving up-to-date information on sites we pass, and at the same time is extremely patient. Both he and his wife Annette go out of their way to make visitors at ease.I stay here three times a year. Finding Cedar Crest Stables is one of the luckiest things I have ever done. Mary Jo O'Rear
We stayed here for two weeks while we were in the process of selling our house. The experience was terrible. The cottage was really a joke; it's a single wide trailer that sits on a slope, so when you sleep all the blood rushes to your head. The bed were uncomfortable and definitely not big enough for two, we ended up getting an air mattress for one of the family members...but be careful where you put it because there are little signs all over the place telling you not to move any furniture. Believe me, there is a sign for everything. If you break anything its a 75$ fee and if you don't leave the place as you found it, it's 75$. This means you have to clean the floors, the stove, the showers, the toilets, vacuum, wash the towels and sheets, etc. Not something you expect from a B&B. Never, once did they offer to do anything for us or ask if we needed anything. We had to take out our own trash and couldn't throw grease down the drain because THEIR sink doesn't work worth a hoot. You also must be careful and not sit in any of the living room furniture, because if you do, it will fall apart (because its ancient)...and they will charge you for it. DO NOT RECOMMEND. You can stay at a hotel for the same price and it's much nicer and you don't have to fight for your room with a bunch of daddy long legs and flies that like to bite.
Cedar Crest Stables opened on Easter Sunday so that we could ride.Three different unrelated couples had booked for trail riding that Sunday, so we made up seven people riding that morning.Horses were prepped and ready and assigned to individual riders based on size and experience.Training was rudimentary but effective and reinforced through on-trail experience. Some had a lot of horse time, and one woman had never seen a horse up close. So this is good for all experience levels. The horses know the trails and know how to work with unskilled riders. It feels very safe. The price is very reasonable, and I would even say cheap by the usual North American standards for horse riding. The ride up Sandia mountain through the Cibola National Forest is spectacular. Two hours was too short a ride, but we had to make concessions to the Easter holiday. We recommend this to anyone wanting to experience more a natural New Mexico. I will return to this stables on my next visit to NM. Next time we want to do the four hour trail ride to the falls.
