I called the Bolack Museum to reserve a spot on a guided tour of the wildlife museum. I wasn't expecting very much from this Farmington museum as I live in Chicago near the Field Museum which houses one of the largest collections in the world. But, I was in for a treat. The Bolack Museum houses thousands of animals--all attractively displayed in large exhibit spaces. The guide walked us through one room after another. The ranch offers these tours for free and asks only that you call ahead to make a reservation...as the museum is kept locked until a guide meets you at the entrance. My tour included just 2 other people and lasted over an hour. Parking is also free and located near the entrance.
Any visit to the four corners area should include a stop by the B Square Ranch. This is truly an amazing place. The electromechanical museum really appealed to my engineering background. I have never seen such an eccletic and unique collection of old technology. Everything from a fully intact and operational Sherman Hellcat Tank to the largest collection of old electrical insulators I have ever seen. They even have the old black Cadillac used in the filming of Driving Ms. Daisy.Entrance to the museum is free, but you do have to call and make an appointment.
July 2007The wildlife museums was great! If your in the Farmington area this is a must see. As an electrician I realy like the Electromechanical Museum, just be sure to call ahead because they give tours as needed.
