It is not like a typical horseback riding. You go for a long distance and have a little more freedom with the horse. Yet you are safe and watch be the overseers.
The horses were healthy and strong. Great guides.Beautiful surroundings. Lots of wildlife- saw wild horses calling to our horses from the mountainside. A bit exhausting if you're not used to it- be prepared to be hot & thirsty. Fortunately, the provided all of us bottles water to take with us on the horses. Took us to the exact spot where Walt and Jessie parked the RV-this was very cool.Highly recommended.
Very helpful staff and a the rideas are out in the open desert with great views all around since the resort is set apart form the rest of Bernillo.
We didn't book a ride with horses but instead borrowed bikes from the resort. We rode to the stables just to check out the area. The trainers/managers saw us and invited us to meet the horses. They were very knowledgeable and you could tell they really cared for the horses. We loved the visit even with not riding the horses.
I'm a seasoned rider, so when I went on this ride, I am used to podunk horses that can barely move. These horses were the best. They also are a rescue operation for New Mexico's wild horses and neglected animals, so it was wonderful too see the rehabilitation process in action. The guides that come out volunteer to ride these horses to break them in and alot of the horses being ridden were also rescued animals. Ernesto the head guide was the best ever. He has stories and is so fun to be around. Take the Rio Grande ride it is spectacular!
Close to Tamaya resort, picked up at hotel. Horse was sized to rider. All horses well behaved, plenty of support for staff.
Only two of us on this ride! I'm sure that's not normal. It was fun -- about an hour and half, slow and easy. Horses are nice -- they do a lot of horse rescue, too. Ernesto was our guide and he was funny and helpful. He clearly enjoys his job and is quite knowledgeable about the environment.
Great guide, great fun! Very pretty scenery and appropriate for riders of all skill levels. Don't miss out on the fun.
Loved riding at Tamaya. Horses are in great shape, the staff is friendly and helpful the setting is so beautiful.
A wonderful 1.5 hour ride to the Rio Grande and back. Go as early as possible in the summer to avoid the heat. They recommend long pants for every rider, and in the summer sun and heat the extra clothing can be quite hot.
Family loved the people. Day we went not many on our ride Got a lot of history from the cowboy. All the horses were fairly well behaved
Totally recommend this trip and doesn't matter if you are an experienced rider or this is your first time on a horse. Great horses and they are matched to your weight, age, and experience. We went on a private ride with Andrew and he really took care of us. Definitely would recommend!!
The locally sourced rodeo will lovingly rehabilitated rescue animals was a real treat. The wagon ride at sunset was a lovely cherry on top.
The staff was so friendly and helpful. Our ride was in the desert then along the river. Our guide was very knowledgeable and took time and care with everyone. This is a must do.
The stable master and staff treat these beautiful, albeit formerly abandoned and abused, horses so well. You can tell that they love them. That was special for us.
