I can remember going as a kid, the last time I was there a was 14 that was 27 years ago. But I will never forget climbing up the side to reach the cave behind the fall and exploring like all kids my generation did or swimming and free diving in one of the center fall ponds that seamed so d eels app at that age. I recommend going and taking the whole family so your kids and family can share I'm these memories.

Drove 11+ hours from Colorado to climb at Sitting bull falls. Very disappointed to learn that it is apparently still closed and has been for many months despite apparent representations to the contrary. (See Brenda O's review.). Come on Lincoln National Forest, do your job and open the Falls.

The falls are closed till October, there's a fine of $500 dollars for traspacing by feet. And a warning signed for a $5000 dollar fine or 1 year in jail for traspassing. Do not drive it will be closed.completely closed lots of warning signs!!!!

The review is to advise anyone making plans to visit that the site is off limits due to the roads being damaged by several storms in 2013. As of June 2014 there are no plans to repair the roads and provide access to the site. Folks using ATVs and trail bikes may be able to access the area. Sad, because we had heard some great recommendations about the falls.

The rangers have verified that flooding in 2013 washed out major roads through the park! Since no other sites have mentioned the closure, I wanted to post it here to save you from the long, winding drive to the entrance where you find out it is closed!

This is a little oasis in the middle of the desert! Definitely a place to visit if you have the time!

The best kept secret in New Mexico. Takes awhile to get there, but it is worth it. Who would have thought there could be a waterfall northwest of Carlsbad?! There aren't even any rivers! Call before you go...could be closed due to fires in the past.

This is a great little out of the way place to spend an afternoon. It has picnic tables and bathrooms but really no staff. Bring your own food and drinks but please clean up after yourselves. This is a pristine place and needs to stay that way.

Out of the hot desert into the cool mountains of the Lincoln National Forest. Hike up to the top of the falls and take a dip in the many ponds both on top and below the falls. Don't know if you can still climb into the cave beneath the falls but it's an interesting view. Covered picnic facilities available.

Not a commercial site, but a state managed park with unusual features for the southwestern desert. Check before you go: there have been fires and floods which occasionally close the park for extended periods. Pack a lunch and prepare to hike a little for maximum enjoyment. There are picnic tables and restroom facilities, and usually a volunteer caretaker. Great for kids who like to explore.

Our 6 kids, 3yrs - 10 yrs had a great time exploring the waterfall and swimming in the springs. The park staff was friendly and it was a great day excursion while traveling from Carlsbad back to Hobbs.

only opened on the weekends. It is a bit of drive, but worth it. It is a small fall with true swimming holes.

We drove here across Dark Canyon Rd and believe me when I tell you it is a long way. Bring a picnic lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen. The park is nice with covered picnic tables all built by the CCC. You can swim under the falls and there are steps down to the stream. There are restrooms in the park and the day we were there, three park rangers were on duty, keeping the rowdy kids in line.

It's was cool but there was just one waterfall we expected for the more water but we were planning to stay for vacation but after we saw the just one waterfall we decided to leave back home

I use to live in Carlsbad and this was one of my favorite places to go. If you go to the top and hike for a bit there are some really nice spots to swim on the river, even a rope to jump into the water with. The only drawback is that there are leaches at the bottom of the falls so be careful.
