This is a natural environment that keeps on giving!!Over the years, it has continually been a nature refuge for generations of families. Hike the boardwalk trails and commune with nature.

I started going to the EEC several years ago because I wanted to learn to kayak. Their kayaking program is quite nice. They supply everything that you need. For most trips, you meet at the EEC and the naturalist drives everyone in a van to the river or lake where you'll be paddling. The trips range from a couple of hours in the morning or evening to the occasional 4 day trip. Monica, the naturalist who runs the trips, is a delight being quite knowledgeable about kayaking, birds, plants, and other things that you'll experience on the trips.Since then, I've also gone to the EEC to walk around their grounds as well as joining one of their cross country ski trips. All in all, it's a delightful part of Somerset County (though it is available to those outside the county often at the same rate as for county residents).

We stopped by the EEC to take an hour or so walk in the afternoon. The trails lack any reasonable trail blazes and instead have a map at most intersections. So, instead of just walking along following blazes you have to stop at each intersection and try to figure out which direction to go from a map. Not as easy as it sounds! My wife and I hike all the time and yet had a difficult time finding out way out!

What a great place to hike, walk and view nature. Easy trails well marked for little kids. They have really nice plantings with great smells such as lavender.

This center in the midst of the Great Swamp area provides classes for all ages and programs about many aspects of the environment. My kids went there when they were little...a lot of years ago...and now we go and take classes about lots of different topics..Go on line to their website and see all of available programming. We've even been there to attend a program on maple sugaring. Even if you don't take a class or attend a program, it is just a quiet, peaceful place to go to be at one with nature. Walk one of their trails early in the morning and just be at peace with yourself and the quiet. We are retired now, but it you have young children, it offers tons of programs and activities!

I attended a maple sugaring event with my 4 year old son and we both had a very good experience. Great presenter, The event is very appropriate for kids as young as 4 and informative for the adults. Fun to walk around on a nice spring day

The Environmental Education Center is part of Lord Stirling Park which is next to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. This is a wonderful educational center providing environmental programs for the public. The center with over 450 acres of land is located at the end of the paved section of Lord Sterling Road. There are over 8 miles of hiking trails and 3 miles of boardwalk with several observation blinds and towers along the trials. The trail system allows you to see nature up close with marshes, swamps, fields, forest, ponds, and wildlife. I have been there at various times of the year and highly recommend the experience of walking all the trails. There's plenty of parking at the center. The center has class rooms, reference library, an auditorium, and a nice book shop with gifts. They also have temporary exhibits in their exhibit area.
