Very large. I enjoyed walking along the lake. But during my hike with my dog many cars would come and park...sit for 10 minutes, wait for another car to park next to them, do a little business, and leave. Never saw a park ranger.
A nice array of hiking trails and a good place to take your dog for an extended walk. Best outside of the summer when it is much less crowded.
I love to go overnight camping there, The people who are also camping are friendly. It s great pleace close to home, you can spend the whole day there, swimming, hicking abd just relaxing.
Cheesquake park is a great place to picnic. It has hiking trails, a nice calm lake for swimming, basketball courts, picnic tables and barbecue grills on site. I grew up going to this park and it was fun as a child and still is as an adult. It is easy to access too, right off the Garden state parkway
Great open space nearby where you came enjoy and be with nature and smell the grass and the simpler things Green grass and fresh air See critters and hear the birds instead of car horns and blasting rap music. Nature opens its door are you entering ?
The Park is located near Raritan Bay. It includes a tidal basin wet lands, forest, lake, museum, playgrounds, campsites and a variety of trails. From Memorial Day to Labor Day there is an entrance fee. The rest of the year it is free. Seniors can get a free state park card that allows them and a car full of people to enter free at any time. It is so conveniently located right off of Parkway Exit 120.
Even though this is a very well know park it is tucked away in the center of New Jersey. The park is always clean and the patrons are respectful of each other. It can get a little crowded near the lake on a very hot day but there's plenty of room.
Park has several hiking trails of varying difficulties. Mountain bike trail, Camp sites, and picnic areas.
Once you are in the park, you have no idea that you are so close the the Garden State Parkway. In face, the Parkway runs right through the park. There are many nature trails to hike and explore. I love exploring this park during the fall and winter months. The lake provides fishing opportunities for the whole family. I just love this place.
This park is a great place to send the day. So much to do. From swimming in the lake,to hiking the trails there's something for everyone. The nature center is fun stop for kids. With a touch table and fish and turtles, its a fun place learn about the nature in the area.
I love to go here for a hike or a run. It is a great setting with nice scenery and good trails. They also have a nice lake for those hot summer days.
this park is basically just a way for the local police too harass people that are out to have a nice day. their were 4 rent a cops on a stretch of road within the park that could not have been more then a mile in length. And they were busy. pulling over and harassing park attendees for anything they could. the kind of people that write you a ticket for your brake light being out. while I sat there awaiting my own ticket I watched them pull over 1 out of 4 cars, one officer was directing traffic and would randomly stick his head in vehicles as they were passing by. shameful behavior at what is supposed to be a public resource. If you are looking for a nice relaxing day, I would suggest going somewhere else.PS. don't go swimming, the water is dirty and my skin broke out horribly the next day.
I visited the lake area with my family. Everything was really clean, people were having a good time. The only thing that I hated was the bugs, they never leave you alone and they bite. I went on a Sunday and it's been two days of endless itching and scratching. Not recommended for kids because of the bugs.
This place is the worst park ever, is next to the parkway, lost of noise. Like to go to a peaceful peak.
Nice shaded trails for walking and hiking. It is a little crowed in the summer months but off season it is free and nice and quiet.
