Definitely have to be looking for it... But very nice little tasting room! Anne was extremely nice and knowledgeable about the wine! She and her husband own the property. Very nice wines with some awards to back them up! Not really good for a large crowd or group. Outside area could be cleaned up a bit and be made a little more "vineyard" appealing. My partner and I enjoyed ourselves and would truly visit again!!!
Saw signs on NJ 284 N. Followed to winery.A very pleasant young lady .offered tasting and historical background of each wine.Purchased wine and glasses.
If you're a fan of dry but very "soft" red wines, you have to visit this place for a tasting. Each red got better as I went through the flight. The Chambourcin is reasonably priced at 16.95; the Merlot was incredible (price $45). the great Fratelli Ventimiglia was on sale. All felt like velvet in the mouth with no sharp aftertaste. There is a $5 tasting fee. The owner is a delightful man who learned his winemaking craft from his grandfather, who came from Italy to Paterson.
We recently stopped by this "vineyard" during a visit to the area. The grounds look run down like a dump, not pretty at all - not what you'd expect from a "vineyard". It is inside a small house type trailor thing, and tastings are done standing at the tiny counter. You can taste 6 for $5 or all of them for $10. We didn't like any of the wines at all really. And all of their bottle prices were pretty expensive. The people there were nice but that's about it. And the water they gave us to rinse our glass/palette smelled like sewage, I almost threw up when I smelled it. They do not sell glasses of wine here, and there is no food, no cheese, nothing. There is one picnic table outside but I have no idea why you would want to sit there. There are MUCH nicer wineries to visit in this area. Don't waste your time here.
Most NJ wines are fruity and sweet, well Ventimiglia wines are truly the exception. If you like well balanced, mature and re-fined wines then you will truly appreciate Ventimiglia Wines. They have a wonderful mouth feel, giving you a lovely finish. Gene the wine maker is truly a magician at blending wines, ensuring that each varietal that is added to the blend improves the overall balance of the blend. The winery is located in a beautiful part of NJ, in Sussex county. It is a lovely drive, and a perfect location for a picnic. although there are some restaurants about 15 min away. Visiting the winery is like visiting a dear friends house, because Gene is so gracious. His knowledge of wine making is impressive, and he is clearly passionate about wine making and his wines. There are also two other wineries in sussex county if you want to make a day of itI have had many Cabernet franc wines from NJ and have never found one I liked, but His Cabernet Franc is outstanding, Medium body with some light fruit and just enough tannins to make it a pleasure to drink,. If you like an old school full bodied blend then the Fratelli blend is for you, with cab fran, cab sav, and merlot. Now i like whites but am often disappointed with NJ whites, either they are really sweet or have no body. This is not the case with gene's whites, his chardonnay is the perfect summer white, nice medium body, not overwhelming oak and just enough brightness to make you take notice. The winery was featured at the 2010 crystal spring food and wine festival, take a lookhttp://www.youtube.com...
