This Island is a clean family friendly vacation spot. There are may great restaurants and family activities to do. The beaches are spotless, probably because you have to pay to play.
From the quiet solitude of the north end of the Island to the attractions of the south end, Long Beach Island has it all. A free shuttle is available for anyone coming to LBI. Situated between the bay and the Ocean with only one bridge in once you're here you won't want to leave and you won't have to.
Beautiful uncrowded beaches, plenty of free parking, Clean, safe, and lots to do. Shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. Something for everyone.
I have been going to Lbi NJ my whole life and now I have a place year round! It is a fantastic island on the Jersey Shore! The beaches are spectacular. And the sunsets amazing! They have great restaurants, night life and awesome ice cream shops. If you really want to know about LBI visit; http://www.shopLBInj.com to see all the happenings!
Over the years we have stayed at various locations on Long Beach Island during the summer months. Long Beach Island is made up of many small towns so this review applies to all of the island regardless of which town you stay in. There are numerous summer weekly rentals on the island, but if you do not know someone you will need to go through a real estate agent for booking. All the locations we stayed in had kitchen facilities. Most of the locations are rental homes, some of which are very large. You can rent the larger locations and accommodate 2 or 3 families. There are beach front rentals which are very expensive and are usually booked early in the year. In fact most the locations are rented by repeat customers at least 6 months or more in advance. The island has a small amusement park and many mini golf courses. The beaches are very nice and the water is very clean as you would expect. You can fish off the beaches and party fishing boats and private boat rentals are available. In the past I have trailered my boat to our rental. There is a boat ramp on the bay side which you can use for a small fee. I would not recommend bringing a boat because the boat ramp is located on the bay side which brings you into Barnegat Bay. Barnegat Bay on a good day only has between 1-3 feet of water and to enter the Atlantic you have to go through a very small channel. I purchased a map at one of the local boating supply stores and when i read the chart to the channel I believed I was reading the map wrong. I asked the owner of the store who started laughing and told me if I decided to go through the channel I better follow a local boat because there are many shallow locations not indicated on the map. He said to return I would have to follow a local boat and otherwise would surely run aground even with the chart. He advised not to go through the channel. I stayed in the bay and found when the tide went out I would churn up the muddy bottom. I stopped, read the chart and the buoys and confirmed I was indeed in the channel, within the markers, but was still churning up the bottom. I would not do it again. There are many small restaurants and Pizza resturants which become very crowded in the summer months and there is usually a wait during evening hours. The restaurants are all reasonably priced. As you enter or leave the island over a causeway there are a few upscale restaurants which are also crowded during the summer months, but take reservations. Long Beach Island is very safe and we never saw any rowdy people, it is more family oriented. My children for 2 weeks during the summers months grew up on Long Beach Island This is a very nice location for a family vacation and the kids will love it.
We spend a lot of time on the beaches of LBI,very clean, very quiet, very family oriented as is the entire south end haven't spent any time up north, not much beach access for the peasants. No "thugs" or unsupervised teens running about,no boardwalk, just quiet time with family and friends relaxing in a nice homey beach town.Beach tags are required,I'm never happy about that, but we get our seasonal tag 35.00 so it's not that bad,I believe it's 5 for the day pass.
we were blessed to buy our "mellow yellow" 17 years ago..every time we go over the bridge, all windows are open& Bonjovi is playing.. Who says you can't go home again? This is my home away from home. This little beach shack saved me.. After being dx with leukemia, I went down& smelled the ocean, listening to the waves. If this is heaven then when my time comes, I will be ready. Sadly, I am once again gearing up for a fight and as I look put my cold window, I let myself dream. I dream of my happy mellow yellow sitting on my deck getting a glimpse of my beloved ocean& praying that once again my place will save me!!!
I know the Ship Bottom area bc my friend has a place there. I was so happy and impressed with how it was restored after Sandy. I used to live in NJ at the shore in Monmouth County. I have never seen seen LBI look so beautiful as it did last summer. It is just gorgeous!.
I took a trip with my son, a long anticipated trip back to New Jersey. Rented a beachfront condo off season for two weeks. The island beach beautiful and has stayed that way for the fifty some years that I have gone there. No matter the amount of time in between trips back. I am originally from Trenton. I rented this place because I missed the beach so much, plus, my relatives and friends that live in New Jersey could come visit us.This trip we found a real treasure the Chicken or the Egg. The place stays open year round winter hours are from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm. In the summer the place is open 24/7. You can order breakfast anytime day or night. The wings come to mind first, fantastic. The variety of sauces, well let's just say really extensive. Any heat you want they have it. Breakfast menu the tops. This place has a menu that will take some time to choose from. They offer all sorts of Mexican dishes, veggie dishes, soups, salads and so much more. Fried pickles? Yes. My son and I visited there on several occasions during our stay. When family came we took them there. One for the food, two for the affordable prices. The place has a really unique decor, chicken themed. You just have to see it for yourself.Trust me you will not be disappointed. One thing to keep in mind is that summer time this place is busy, busy, busy. There are lines and there is a wait. But keep in mind that people do wait to get in because it is worth it. But if you want to skip the lines order take out. When I return to the island we will be heading to the Chicken and the Egg after we take in the beautiful beach and breathe.
Went off season, but still very beautiful and actually had a couple warm days at the end of October beginning of November. I expect it is a very busy area in the summer, but loved the quiet serene pace of off season. Still several restaurants open in the off season, the Chicken or the Egg and a few others.
Explore in the off season- you'll enjoy it more. Even in October on a Sunday there are things to do. Don't forget barnegat light house- a must see!
My wife and I and friends went to the 2014 lbi. clamchowder festival and had a great time. We bought the tickets there .fifteen to twenty minutes wait, which is not bad.also considering 5000to 7500 people were their. We tried every soup and most of them were delicious. The best white clamchowder to me was from country kettle. The red came from lefties . They also had fresh beer from the tap,and live band. You could not ask for any thing better.Even the weather was nice.If you get a chance next year please go and have a great time. One tip bring a tray or muffin pan you'll see what I'm talking about.
Just visited LBI last Thursday before the weather changed along with the season. It was the most beautiful day of the summer I/we had. That day was shared with my daughter and I, and we just basked in the ocean and under the sun just one last time. It was Awesome! Thank God for special moments like these.
We visited LBI (again) in August 2014, and found it to be better than ever. We walk every morning and beach it most afternoons. There's good shopping up and down the island, great fish places, fudge, and a small amusement park. No boardwalk, nothing too built up, but enough to keep you busy, if you choose. The beaches are lovely and well-maintained by the township. There's really a lot to do, but it's all low-key and mostly family oriented. The restaurants get better every year. Our faves for excellent dining are The Boat House, The Engelside, and Bisque (I always order the tuna). It's easy to go off-island on the causeway to find more, like the Regal 10 Cinema. Atlantic City is a 45 minute drive north, and we usually do it once a year. This year we went to Harrah's to see Straight No Chaser. They were awesome. LBI is a great place to vacation.
You can't bring food or alcohol to the beach which is one block from the main Long Beach Ave with restaurants and hotels. That's why this beach is clean! The waves are strong enough for surfers and swimmers to enjoy.Great place to visit in the summer.
