If you want to go back country with no frills in a state park where you won't get caught in an avalanche or eaten by wild animals then consider this place. Historic CCC structures, well travelled ski trails, uncrowded, it is a pleasant place to spend an afternoon in winter.

Great state park with a really nice campground, pond and hiking. During the winter time the trails are an excellent place to snowmobile!

Once a year I go camping for a few days on my own, just me and my little tent in a rustic campground somewhere. This year 'somewhere' was Bear Brook State Park. Excellent choice. It was everything I look for in a campground- nicely secluded, pleasantly wooded, mostly tent camping going on there, quiet and scenic, with handy hiking trails. Most relaxing.

We enjoyed a day trip to use the trails and stopped in to the CCC museum and got a slice of history from both these little known or visited gems. We really got a chance to walk down memory lane looking at the antique snow machines, and we've enjoyed hiking trails all over that were built by men from the CCC that was one of the great public works benefit projects that saved Americans after the depression in the 1930's. The trip down to Hayes Marsh was worth the hike and seeing the beach and picnic areas will lead us to return when we are looking to hook up with others. Nice place to stay, nice place to enjoy...
