Ok, I love farms, farmstands and orchards.... Hackleboro Orchard is all three! Get some of the most beautiful apples in the state, pet the farm animals, stop inside the farm store and get pre-picked fruit, local veggies, the most HUGE local baked pies, gifts and souvenirs. Take the path to the observation deck... ... there are only about 10 stairs to climb and you're rewarded with sweeping views of the countryside and mountains. The leaves had not turned color yet, but the smoky-blue hillside, hazy fragrant air, blue sky and puffy clouds made it a perfect autumn day!
I can't believe I am the first to review this! This working farm/orchard is open from late August through Thanksgiving. We go every year to pick up a supply of apples, but there are fresh veggies there too, and of course Maple Syrup, and Honey. Its a bit off the main drag (4 miles off Route 93 Exit 18), but worthwhile. The BEST apples, Cortlands, Honeycrisp, Northern Spy. Large picnic area, baby goats, hayride, You-pick blueberries and apples, or buy from the farm store. The farm covers the top of a large hill. Take this "New England" farm experience home with you. Although you will be driving about 4 miles in the country, they have the roads marked well with their "Red Apple" signs.
Nice orchard with fresh farm produce. It's a pretty place to look around and take in views. It's a bit off the beaten path, a mile or two North of Canterbury Village center. A dirt road takes you out to the orchard. Worth a visit for the great apples and views.
