If your looking for a nice little getaway you should head this way. Yes the road gets narrow but is easily negotiated even with the smallest cars. Followed by a little walk to the falls adds up to a very nice relaxing day. With a couple different paths to take it can turn out to be a nice afternoon spent.

We went to Beede Falls off Sandwich Notch Road today. The path from the parking lot is easy. It's about a 5 minute walk to the falls with a shallow swimming area. My girls loved it! There are more trails to the Cow cave and Lower falls. It's certainly off the beaten path but worth it!

You can stop in several places at trail heads or along waterfalls. The road can be tricky, because it is dirt, very hilly and rarely maintained. It is closed in the winter to cars, but becomes a great snowmobile trail.

Enjoyed the untouched areas, pristine brooks and fishing.Quiet drive through the wild areas, with sightings of many wild animals and birds.

BE CAREFUL. I really don't suggest taking a low lift car unless it is the height of tourist season and is hasn't rain in a while - I have bottomed out before. A fun drive with lots to enjoy (especially the driving surface) and several points to stop, park and explore. There are several ponds off of a few trails/closed roads, streams and exciting history of a lost village that was depopulated by the civil war (you might have to really dig up this history). I 100% urge anyone with some clearance on the vehicle to take a half day or day and explore this road (get some info first from the Chamber) and enjoy NH wilderness.

The sense of history, the old cellar holes, the hiking off the road in any direction, the quiet, the ponds you have to search for, the foliage in season, and coming out in Sandwich if you started in Campton.

We used to camp there. There are several areas to pitch a tent. The hiking is nice too, we found a waterfall area with a shallow swimming area, and a little further along that path, there are some pretty cool sliding rocks... There are old, old cemeteries up there, which are interesting to look at, if you're into history, or cemeteries for that matter. I'm not sure of the camping rules now, but a couple years ago, I think my parents just checked in with the town hall and let them know. But like the previous post said, have four wheel drive. The roads are mostly dirt, which means some pretty severe mud in the wet season, and i'm sure the cell phone reception isn't the best up there to call for a tow.

This is a one lane road. I think the speed limit is 10 mph. It is ONLY open in the warmer months. Most GPS systems don't recognize this really important fact and every year cars either get stuck or have to drive an extra 30 miles to get from Waterville Valley to Center Sandwich or visa versa. Some parts are paved. Some are not. Be sure to leave the Ferrari at home if you plan to travel this route.
