Stopped in at Tall Ship Distillery in Oct. 2014 on a whim. My cousin was in from out of town, and I'd seen their signs around town.It was a weekday, during the day, so we were the only visitors to the distillery. We spent almost an hour there, hearing the story behind how the distillery got started (it's a great one... starts at a bar in the Carribean and winds it way through months distilling spirits there before building an operation in NH) and how spirits are made. These guys are passionate about what they do and completely knowledgeable. They talked about the high quality of ingredients and how they, unlike mass distilleries, don't use the lesser-quality "heads" or "tails" of the distilled spirits. The white rum was fantastic. Smooth, without a burn, and just a hint of sweetness... you could sip it on ice, if you wanted. I like a squeeze of lime in mine. It was $27 for a bottle -- more than you'd pay for Bacardi, but worth it IMHO (especially if you're hosting guests or looking for something more than a rum-and-coke mix). The owners said they'd be making a spiced rum for the holidays and then will be working on gin and whiskey recipes. Good stuff. Worth a trip for the education alone (I knew nothing about distilling going in). Also, it's free to visit, so you have nothing to lose!
