Jenness State Beach is one of the most convenient and stress-free beaches for new surfers (or anyone who wants an easy day at the beach). Surfboard, wet suit and paddle-board rentals are a few hundred feet away across the street, parking is easy in the available lot, and there is even a convenience store in the surf shop and a nice ice cream parlor and motel next door. Waves are pretty good and the nearly-all-sand bottom is great for the newbie surfer. All in all a sweet spot in Rye.
We love this beach. It is a nice family beach. There is a parking lot where you pay to park and also there is a little lot across the street for parking too. I try to find street parking which is free. There is a little place across from the beach where you can get some thing to eat and have all sorts of things you may need at the store. My gripe is this. The Bathrooms. They are the most horrible Bathrooms I have ever had to use. They are gross. also today they ran out of toilet paper. All of the women there were saying how gross this bathroom was. We all have to pay to go to this beach and Rye is such a beautiful town with big mansions and beautiful beach houses, I cannot believe they don't have any money to fix these bathrooms. They revamped all the bathrooms in Hampton Beach, why not this beach? anyways make sure you bring your own toilet paper if you go to that beach just in case! Shame on you , whoever you are who is in charge of this facility! Please get these bathrooms redone!! Other than the bathrooms, this is one of our favorite beaches! Also there are lots of surfers here too.
While it doesn't have the really white dig gable sand to play in and there is little room at high tide to play ball it still is a cool little beach. There is a surf school and food across the street. If your the lucky thirty people that can get a metered space in front then there is no walk to get to the beach. Another 50 cars or so can park across the street and at 15 or 20 dollars still reasonable. The water is usually clear bit once in a while it gets nasty with seaweed or jelly fish in August. Yes, the water is cold your in New England.
A very big beach, and we had a lot of fun here. Plenty of space to play. Great for kids, as the shallow sands seem to go on forever. It's not as pretty has Hampton Beach to the south or Long Sands to the north, but also not as busy or loud. Not a whole lot of parking. Facilities are a little run down, but no big deal. Laid back, old school beach experience. Very, very nice.
If you are looking for a kid-friendly beach without frills and tacky shops, this is it. If you are looking for the opposite of Hampton or the beaches in York, this is it. It's about the beach. Very shallow which is great swimming for kids, and as the tide goes out, one if the best body surfing beaches in New England. Great sand for sand castles. Limited parking but it's cheap if you get there early in the summer, other places to park or along the road a bit further down. As the tide goes out there is ample room for all despite crowds should you go on a summer weekend.
Beautiful beach. Please note in the high summer season this beach, like most, gets very crowded. Parking may be limited once the parking lot is full. There is quite a bit of parking but if you plan to visit on a nice summer day I would go early in the day to ensure you get a parking spot. Nice beach. If you want to stay overnight, there is a small hotel located directly across the busy road. You can walk to the beach from the hotel but it will be located across a busy road and a parking lot. The hotel is very basic but has a nice restaurant with good sea food and a nice outdoor pool. I visited this beach on a very busy hot day so there were crowds of people (not as crowded as Old Orchard Beach in Maine, however). I would like to return and visit during a less crowded season. Fall would be a great time to walk or jog on this beach during the Indian Summer wam weather. Another good time to visit would be late Spring. I didn't swim but I did walk in the water. As with most New England beaches, the water is quite cold even on hot days. I don't know whether there are bathrooms or other facilities.Although it can get crowded, this area would be less crowded than Hampton Beach area, NH, on a nice summer day. However there is more to do at Hampton Beach which also has a playground. I do not recall a playground at this beach. It is a beautiful nice beach which would be good for anyone who wants to basically just enjoy the ocean, of any age, and good for families.I assume there is some type of state mandated parking fee in the summer or a pass may be required; I don't know. Check with the state of NH to find out before you go if it's summer. I believe there were some metered marking spots but I am not sure. I was parked at the hotel across the street where we stayed and just walked across the road....a few minutes walk.If you have children be sure to be careful and stay with them as you cross the road. Although it's a short distance, it's a busy highwayroad.
This beach is great, not busy and we always get our "spot". Great for early morning walks as the sun is rising
Very clean and well kept. The beach was not to crowded with a life guard on duty. Toilets and restaurants are close by. We were able to find parking near the beach.
Spent the day at Jennes, it is a large beach with nice sand and very clean. It does not have a lot of parking. I had to park at a $15 private lot across the street. The restrooms could be updated and it has no snack bar but there is a great little store across the street.
This beach is superb. We stayed right on the beach so did not have issues with parking. Lovely wide, very gently shelving beach. Great for surfing, swimming and body boarding. The sand is clean and you can find pebbles and shells to collect. You need to arrive really early on Sumner weekends to park interest best spot. There is extra parking behind the summer sessions surf shop for $15 per day. I will be coming back!
The beach was clean and not overcrowded like some of the NH beaches to the south. Parking was difficult so on our 2nd day We launched kayaks from Rye Harbor ($5 parking fee for the day) and paddled the short trip to the beach! People there were friendly andcourteous. Lots of families and kids made for afun day at the beach!
Easy access, parking, bathrooms, lifeguards, long sandy beach, very wide and shallow at low tide so great for kids, not as crowded as Hampton and North Hampton Beaches.
Get here early for parking! Bathroom facilities are convenient - not lovely but that's ok! The beach was gorgeous and wide open despite all of the people on it. We will visit again for sure!
Fantastic beach but get here early for parking. Super fine sand, ocean waves and clean! There is rest room facilities that are kept clean considering the multitudes that use this beach in peak summer hours.
Stayed right on the beach. You can enjoy the large stretch of sandy beach, play frisbee, or go jogging. The boys loved surfing. The waves were perfect. And head over to Summer Sessions Surf Shop when you're done!
