kilen woods state park

This was a really nice park. It seemed like it had a brand new campground. I used the bathroom in the campground and each restroom had it's own private shower. It all seemed really nice. The hiking trails were great here. It had some impressive views as well as some big hills. I would recommend this park to both the campers and the casual day hiker. The views and the Dinosaur Ridge trail make this a park one I will return to again and again.

I could tell this park is usually beautiful but I hiked it just after it reopened from flooding. Many parts of the trail that I hiked, although open, were not yet mowed and we're completely overgrown. The trail to the main attraction was also washed out. There has been major flooding in the area which has caused the mosquito and biting fly populations to EXPLODE. The rains are gone now and they know it. Bug spray will not stop them. I was covered in Off, Deep Woods and they still didn't hesitate to bite. Keep that in mind if you plan to come in July of 2014 at all. I was bit and I haven't been feeling well since. The park is very rustic compared to others but still beautiful.I would have given this a 5 out of 5 but having to run the last 1/2 mile of the trail to my car to attempt to get away from the 15 to 20 flies that were intent on eating any exposed skin they could find put a downer on my day.USE PROTECTIONI can't stress it enoughUSE PROTECTION!!!!!
