Red Wing says the park is full of eagles we saw 0. There were others at the park that came because they had heard eagles were everywhere.
Colvill park is located right on the mighty Mississippi river in Red Wing. There is an abundance of eagle and water fowl. The park is clean and well maintained with a huge new childrens play area. Plenty of picnic tables and shelters, picturesque walking trail, concession stand and large outdoor water park.
It's a nice park with a great sized playground for kids. Have plenty of space for badminton or volleyball. Good place to grill also.
The fact that the playground was "universal" was exquisite. It was accessible to all. The pool was adequate. Zero depth...three water slides..but the hours were so short. Would be nice if they could add another feature like a lazy river. We frequent this every summer though!
Stopped to eagle watch. The grounds are so nice and very well kept! There was a new children's playground there which I didn't remember seeing on my last trip back in 2012. Only obstacle was the construction equipment that was blocking the road down to the park due to construction above on highway 61.
Ok, so this is the best park ever! I don't want anyone to know! There is a boat launch there for the river and it's never full.. we love going there and launching because it's easy and you can always find a place to park. The area is clean and kept up so if you wanted to have a picnic it would be awesome. The bathrooms are clean and that is important to me!RedWings best kept secret!
We love going to Colvill Park with our family. My 3 year old son absolutely loves it there! Down by the water. Big huge park area and also the nice large water park area!
There is a private Marina there. If you know someone, great place for boating. Fine public swimming pool.
This park has been a Red Wing staple for many years, and it has grown and become better over the years. It is a great picnic and family area, free of charge and awesome for families. During the summer months the kids will love the Universal Playground and Sensory Garden; this was the dream of 2 moms with special needs children. The playground allows kids and adults with special needs to enjoy the playground area along with all other kids and adults; the sensory garden is well maintained and aisles are wide enough to allow those needing a little extra space to maneuver. The water park is up to date and lots of fun for summer; for boaters there is a public landing to allow river access. During the winter months it is a must for eagle watchers, the river is open and allows lots of food for eagles. Bring binoculars is you have them and look for the white heads of the birds in the treetops of trees void of leaves, it is a lot of fun to watch them soar. Eagles are also visible in the summer along with river if you are fishing or just looking skyward! Great spot and FREE. Bring a picnic meal, or grill out at the park for a fun day.
Don't forget to bring binoculars or a very long telephoto lens but chances are high that you can view a large number of bald eagles.
Go in January - March and the eagles are great. Close to town and warm coffee. All the roads are plowed for easy access. Very friendly people.
Grandsons loved the playground area. It is very creative and lots of different equipment for a wide range of ages. Only thing I wondered about was why the waterpark was closed. Should be open through Labor Day.
Colvill Park has something for everyone. It has a water park that is open from Memorial Day thru Labor Day. It has a handicap accessible playground. It has a learning garden that has raised beds and tags so you can see, touch, smell, and read about the plants. It has a couple boat harbors and public boat launches. It has several pavilions that can be rented for parties and get togethers. The old pool house is great for family & class reunions, business meetings, receptions and anything else. It has a kitchen, bathrooms, a large open area and it is heated and air conditioned. The park is right on the river and the scenery is beautiful. It has a walking path that goes around the whole park. It also has ample parking. I live in Red Wing so it is possible for me to go to the park a few times per week.
A huge park with a marina, pavillion, playground and picnic tables, but the best thing to do, is to look for the eagles that nest nearby. They are easy to spot fishing in the water near the marina.
The kids (6, 9, and 12) were blown away by the playground at Colvill Park. We've been to lots of playgrounds over the years, but I'd have to say this was their favorite. I had to pull them away after 3.5 hours of play. They could have spent all day there. There were areas for many different age levels. Also FYI, a lot of the areas are wheelchair accessible since there are ramps in many places. The park was right on the water, so bring binoculars to spot the birds.
